Formalizing the process might necessitate a price, but it should be very small. 100 FP's should be fine. After all that is the going rate for OL and PF's. Plus once you own a tourney, you own it until you delete it.

I also think that the FP's cost for the teams to get into the tournament should be put into a pot to be given to the top 3 finishers in the tournament. It owner would choose how the flex gets split.

So the Flex Points used for the scrimmages go into a pot? I like that, surprisingly.

Well why else would you be in the tournament else you get something for winning it? Just for the trophy? This might make the tournament more important then league play itself.

Well I usually get someone to sponsor my tournaments.

This will probably not work. GLB still needs to profit from friendlies, unfortunately. Prize pots will still likely need to be largely donated by the tourney coordinators.

Not entirely sure you should earn FP's for it. Or maybe you can make that as a configurable option. I was more thinking along the lines that the owner of the tourney pays 100 FP's and everyone else plays for free. It is only a one time 100 FP fee for the host.

Hmm so it'd be something like...

X FP's to buy a tourney (one time fee)
25 FP's to buy into a tourney (one time fee per tourney play)

Yea 25 FP's isn't much, so not a biggie at all.

I can really only think of a few spots.

Statistician and maybe Bracket Maker or something along the lines of that.

The 25 FP "fee" to enter as suggested by the new addition to the OP could actually solve the issue of the prize pool. It would ease the burden on the tourney owner to donate flexies, and it would yield a nice 1600 FP prize for the bigger 64 team tourneys.

I'd say just a host who bought the tourney. The rest would be merely on a tourney by tourney bases if the host felt he needed help. At which time that would need to be coordinated outside of "GLB" control. In forums, etc.

Let's not forget that the other major incentive for playing tourneys is to get a badass custom trophy.
