Yes they can...the 12 days is only on a player that is released...doesn't apply to expired contracts.

Keep the short term contracts for low-level players; but there's no real need for longer contracts ending in midseason.

Then there needs to be a salary cap. Many teams (especially new) need the contracts that run into the next season to give themselves time to build onto stadiums during the offseason.

I endorse this idea. I am really sick of having my contract run out mid-season because my owners are anxious to get me a new contract before the season ends. I then have to choices: re-sign or leave and hope I find another team on short notice.

It is 20 days that you have to wait to resign with a team.

I would like to at least see the default contract to be contracts expiring on day 40.
During the off season most of the contracts I get sent are 1 season contracts which means you are stuck on the team till day 1 of the next season if you decide to opt out.

I'm seeing the issue arise throughout the forums again. Mostly referring to players from CPU teams, but high power free agents signing with soon to be playoff teams is a problem.

This is a really good idea. Standardize the end of contracts to day 40. Simple.

Make contracts normal to the end of the season, not this day 3 crap. Makes some free agents, especially the D-league players coming out.

I already do...the issue is all the owners who don't and have players hitting the free agent market between the trade deadline and the playoffs.
