Yeah, i cant remember for sure but i know it wasnt season 4....crazy how fast it did grow once the first AI came out, that was the true fun of the game, i know people bitched about changes every season, but really that's what kept the game going, evolving w/ the changes and having to rethink strategy was awesome....in the end the stagnant sim which ironically was what the majority wanted killed this game, that and the lack of coordinators, i cant imagine if i had come in at season 30 and tried to learn how to run a full AI gameplan, since i had been spoonfed along the way it seemed easy but put yourself in somebody new shoes i would imagine it would seem rather daunting, so yeah, just not enough coordinators in the game anymore.

That would have something to do with how much time that eats. That's a hell of a commitment.

Team forums were full of threads from coordinators with instructions on how to set tactics for each game. They would get pissed if agents didnt check in with "set".

There was no roster max size, there was no trade deadline, players' XP was based on the number of plays per game. Players had to buy EQ with salary.

There were no tokens or training points. There were some specific multi training combinations, and you had to pick from a drop down list instead of training what you wanted.

There was value in playing on less than "hard" in tactics.

As mentioned, the offense and defense were the equivalent of casual tactics.

There was no world league for everyone to obsess over. In fact, there was no end game at all.

It was amazingly free, wide open and fun.

Imagine playing the game with no level cap end build math min\maxing.

And this is what made it good. People used to complain about people asking for better salary (hmm just like real life) and some other stuff that the math crowd (HOF buyers) came in and complained loudly about and WG listened. Changed the game forever , it became build one way or the highway and continue to fund teams with your money for other peoples pleasure.

I still say the way the game should have been branded was to buy a Package group of players(Dots) or at the least buy a team of build your own dots and maybe it would have fared better. Worse thing ever to happen was when people figured out the formula and that was the only way to play. Sucked the life right out lol.

The game was just so much more fun when it was wide open and random imo.

This is so far from the truth, you only had one or 2 players and they were bigger than life

In the early seasons teams used to trade players for cash and load up on cash, you used to be able to give players money for equipment through bonuses and giving equipment money was often the only way to get people to sign. Then they'd just leave at the end of the season anyway and you'd be SOL on that money you gave them for equipment.

there was all kind of great stuff like this you could do

Forums were a lot more active... I'm in a bunch of team and private forums. Most are just dead or only have one or two posts in the last week! The dots were more interesting cause you didnt know what worked or how to build them. Just when you thiught you did Bort would monkey with it and everyone bitched... But it kept everyone active.

I have more money in my pocket and less time wasted though!

steve was here

the Gurupies got here around day s1 20. probobly 25 of us from another sports website. The problem back then was, you were stuck behind S1 teams until pro, and there was no plateau.

built our firrst farm team in s8 when we figured out we needed to feed indy. we built it a season early and played in DLeagues and entered s8 as level 16's in rookie. (learned this from macedonia diodochi)(oakland suppressors was the overflow team, the first i know of), we built it in a forum and i promised everyone i wouldnt name it The Dirty Sanchez but i did anyway.

-wins and trophys were huge, if you lost you got hammered in the forums.

- we had a MIT math guy (stray doug), several math guys actually, him and ref figured out the formula and strategy for building, capping, training.

I joined apparently week 7 of season 1, and only had 1 dot who was an INT CB (and one of the best of early GLB) Lomas Walker: http://glb.warriorgeneral.com/game/player_awards.pl?player_id=46524

He was an INT and coverage monster including leading SLAP in INT's s2.

I remember helping "coordinate" for that slap team in s1, which was just me mindlessly moving sliders back and forth. Man I was such a good OC back then! When I decided to buy a team for s2 with my college roommate, I told people of my experience coordinating and how I learned a lot about team running from that SLAP team.

I remember S2 (the Chicago Hedgehogs first season) battling hard. We were 6-9 going into the final week against a 15-0 river rats teams. In epic fashion we won that game 12-10 breaking their undefeated record. There was no championship, no trophy that year, but it was special and cemented how special GLB is along with being a springboard for what the team was to become. The forum posts from that game16 thread are below, not that anyone wants to read them, but I enjoyed re-reading the excitement and feel like posting it.

WOW!!! i don't even know where to start.

first of all, we got off to a great start, which i think helped us with momentum. we couldn't punch the first drive in the endzone, but nonetheless, a FG is points.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: K Guillo Tinner
-congratulations man! what a great game. 4/4 and the game winner with 20 seconds left. too bad we can't see a replay. glad to see you got ice in the veins. i know there was a tough stretch for you when you doubted your ability, but this game is a
great way to end the season.

OFFENSE: hey, we won. wasn't the prettiest game, but apparently that's not our style anymore. we've turned into a real grinder team. not to say we can't light it up next year with our brand new WR. i think the passing game will open up for sure. the run game struggled average-wise this game, but got us the huge first downs when we needed it. also, great job to the back-ups Wolfe and Washington. I'm glad to see you guys stuck around and we're still positive in the forum, i think 30 plays each is awesome, and you're still able to contribute. M-Watts, good job today. you busted off some clutch 8 and 9 yard runs. the fumble could have been costly there in the end, but thank god we got the ball back on a fumble by the other team. WR's, great games by Joe Monk and Daygo, you guys really stepped up and made huge contributions as back-ups. to the starters, a lot of deflections today. not your fault, no drops, just couldn't get the ball in there today. O-LINE didn't really control the trenches, but great pass protection. great job Wun Hunglo getting us into position for the GW FG. an AMAZING job by TE Hard Headly to get us a HUGE 4th down conversion that basically got us the win.

DEFENSE: F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C. we shut down the pass and the run. we held a level 17 HB to a paltry 2.6 average. we didn't allow the big play, we made some HUGE stops on 3rd and short. great great job to Spank McMonkey and Knight Rider with 5 PD's. and awesome job by Dan Dokken, 3 PDs. all big stops. didn't get the pressure on the QB that i'd like to see, but i'll take a win over sacks anyday. the defense just buckled down and was very clutch today. great job michael thompson with 5 tackles in 30 plays, making the most of your time on the field. Dead End For You had a great play in the game when he forced the fumble on ST's. you're the ST stud that every team needs. i love it. we got the ball back in the end, that's all that matters. great stops all game.

some plays:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=4482782
great job forcing it Dead End, even more important job jumping on that ball E DAN. finally got lucky on one of these fumbles. didn't turn out to be the GW drive, but huge play.

CLUTCH catches by TE Hard Headly in the final minute:
4th and 11.5: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=4483560
-great job O-line on giving QB enough time to get this pass off

next catch got us in position for an easy 28 yd FG: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=4483581

Guys, all I can say is that I am absolutely 100% impressed. I mean, this has been a rollercoaster season in every sense of the word. we have won some big games, none bigger than this, and we have lost some very winnable games. but, knowing that we were out of the playoffs, we didn't hang our helmets up, we went out there today and played for pride, and we handed the Memphis River Rats their only loss on a perfect season. i mean we just went out there with all the anger of a disappointing season and said F*CK YOU we're not going down without a fight. great way to go into next season. this is a HUGE momentum builder, and i hope this shows all of you who decided to stick around that we WILL become a great team. today was the beginning of an era. i'm pumped and ready for next season, bring it on!

-Proud GM,
Joe Roppo

Yeah, I was kinda disappointed in Tre's performance today. Gave up 3 hurries and a TFL to a guy that really hasn't gotten that many lately. He pretty much ate me up today. Gonna have to work on that in the offseason.

Still, a great win for us, beating the top undefeated team.

helluva game out there guys-way to end it on a high note--quick question--since we aren't playing anymore games, would it make sense to train on intense since there really is no worry about regaining energy?

alright fine... they were dallas but instead buffalo kicked their ass.

^to above

It's really not worth the extra .02or .03unless you really really can afford and want to.

I'd just train normal at most.

i think Wise said that there are gonna be scrimmage games during the playoffs. so energy might be important until the very last couple days of the season. but i wouldn't suggest training on intense. if you are really committed to the game and the team, then saving up all the money you can by training on relaxed, or if at the most normal, then the less we'll have to spend on equipment upgrades through signing bonuses. level 16 equip costs 50K, then level 24 costs like 200K, so saving up all you can while training on relaxed will help this team out in the long term tremendously. 200K is like 1/8th of our profits. and i agree with reapknot, it's really not worth it.

WOW! Amazing win guys. I'da had my heart pumping 'til the end of mr. roppo didn't text me that we won while I was driving home from work, lol. Great plays all around, and though it wasn't pretty, we beat a team that is likely to go 18-1 and win the championship. Something to build on for next season no doubt guys. Very impressive.

Also, they've added in scrimmage games for non-playoff teams every 2 days. until the end of the season. There is no XP awarded, but it'll give me the chance to test out some different tactics, and give you guys a chance to woop some ass for a week so you aren't bored out of your mind. In general I would suggest always training on normal or relaxed. Intense training all 8 days would cost 2.5x as much money as normal, but you'd only add about 0.32 points to a single low level skill, which is hardly worth it IMO.

That 4th down conversion was definitely the play of the game, and great job to tinner. He's missed some kicks the last couple weeks but didn't let it phase him and came back this week with perfecting. Talk about clutch.

Also, joe, we make quite a bit more than 1.6 mill a season (for 200k to be 1/8th of our profits), bu ya, you have the right idea. Every dollar saved helps. We will he all 4 corner sections built for next season so we're in good shape financially for a team going into year 3.

Not a bad way to end a losing season, beating an undefeated team that is.

The whole game becoming stagnant is what killed the game. In order to keep things interesting some sort of variable had to be in flux whether that be part of the player building process, team aspect or actual sim. Unfortunately since its development was abandoned we never got to see where it could go.

Now If bort could just refund me for all this worthless flex I bought on a game that was set aside that would be my most optimistic change I could see.

It is nice reading this thread.

I came in early season two. I enjoyed this game and loved the people here.

Started the Real Thing Tournament which was a Double Elimination 64 Team Tournament.
Had a few problems with the trophies and Time at first. Then Bort opened up for more games to be played.
That really helped the tournament. Later, we had teams that had too many games and others that would
stall on purpose. Every Season except one, we completed this Tournament. I was working around 100 hours a week
and still loved coming here just for the people here.

Great fun Back then.
