So simple back then, before all the talk about cheerleaders and fame.

Yeah, there may have been some game-supplied hints at how to build your dot, but there weren't these cookie-cutters floating around. There was MUCH more experimentation...

Everybody was clueless including Bort and company, and they were feeling their way. All the forums were full of complaints for years about how terrible it was that the game kept changing right when a given person got his very best dot ever finished.

But then a few dots ruined it for everybody, spending their salaries on drugs and hooker dots, dots shooting themselves and each other at clubs, dots leaving the game with CTE... you never see anything about those early retired dots but a lot of them really lost their way... tragic really.

Then the gangs came in... the Addicts, Omerta, Hood, etc. etc. etc.

Then lots of complaints about "socialist" tendencies as the game morphed toward its present form.

It's a wonder any of us made it out alive.

In the early seasons teams used to trade players for cash and load up on cash, you used to be able to give players money for equipment through bonuses and giving equipment money was often the only way to get people to sign. Then they'd just leave at the end of the season anyway and you'd be SOL on that money you gave them for equipment.

You sound like a shitty owner and shitty recruiter tbph. Not my experience at all.

Truth. Recruiting is the only thing I was ever great at.

recruiting became increasingly difficult as the seasons passed by.... season 6 I got my first team, didnt know a soul, had just days till season began, managed to put an entire roster together before the first game and we actually won 12 games that season and went a couple games into the playoffs...kept that squad intact for a very long time with much success... by season 36 recruiting had become a nightmare.... caused me to give up ownership of my teams eventually, just wasnt fun trying to find players...

It was amazing fun!
....

Even with basic tactics .. everyone was trying to build perfect dots.. nothing was cookie cutter

year long friendships and rivals were made..

at the time.. you logged in for countless hours every day... could not wait for game time....

The game was pure and fun. Then it gradually went to shit, got boring, and became repetitive.
Cobra Kai and Tea Baggins wrecked.
Haters hated.
There was a lot less trolling on the forums. Those few trolls back then were original, but they were eventually outnumbered by new trolls that were less creative.

My favorite part was threads started by owners announcing they had a game in 2 hours and needed human players. You also got about 100 contract offers as demand was way ahead of supply.
