12 total seasons. 5 to build. 6 at plateau. 1 in decline.

This is the correct total; but since it only takes 4 to build, it should be 7 plateau.

Damn old brain. Shouldn't post when it's midnight and I'm near done with my rum!

Since only 4 then I think 6 is even MORE appropriate since that's 1 and 1/2 of a dot's life. There's no way a dot should get more than 1/2 again it's life in Plateau or you might as well just stop building them. Just make them all instant builds and take away dot building because you've essentially done that with dots that live equal to, or beyond, how long it took them to get there.
With 4+7+1 you could build a team and never recycle it... ever. Just build 2 teams and as soon as your old dots are ready to retire, your new dots would be ready to take their place. So, unless your Wise and you'd love to never build dots ever again (because, maybe, you suck at it? [J/K])... then you would want a system that encourages rebuilding and 12 doesn't do that. 11 does.

4 build, 4 plateau

The longer plateau is, the more it incentivizes math nerdery in the build process, like not boosting as intended, which in turn, makes the first 4 seasons less competitive and interesting for everyone else.

Networks have a supply chain of new dots, so it really didn't matter to them how long plateau is.

Shorter plateau takes away incentive and sustainability of non-network teams. It will make them less likely to exist and more users to instead just quit due to the disadvantage of short plateau.

(a) if only having 4 seasons, they are going to spend time with at least 1-2 of them just to get to WL (whereas network teams can move dots and get full 4 in WL)

(b) the larger % of a dots seasons that are plateau, the larger # of plateau dots, and the more competitive plateau leagues can be given there are more teams and more dots.

Let's say 1000 dots will exist. 7 plateau seasons means 7 divided by 11 means 636 of the dots will be plateau dots, vs 4/8 being 50% or 500 dots. So in this example 7 vs 4 plateau seasons will increase the # of plateau teams and number of plateau dots in the game by 636/500= +27%

Nevermind the fact that the short a dots total life is, the more we are actually paying for each dot per month (ie $35 dot cost over 8 seasons compared to $35 dot cost over 11 seasons equals 37.5% more expensive dots per month to have the same # of active dots on your account.

Imho anyone advocating for shorter plateau is being fickle at the detriment to the game and userbase.

If its less than 7 seasons, then cut the affects of decline in half.
