I like the idea, but the sudden inclusion of coaches in season 10 is going to create new and different problems (and successes) for teams. I think this should be implemented before then slowly (ie in certain leagues only).

Also, I like the idea that game by game coaches affect their player's attributes. Gameplanning becomes that much more important. Like if you're facing a power back, you coach can give players a slight boost to tackling for that game, whereas if they're facing an agile back, they would have practiced for that all week and have a boost to agility. Obviously there would have to be SA's related to coaching like leadership and motivator and drill sergant etc., but giving a week by week boost to your players (based on your own player's previous skills perhaps? ie if your guy had brutal agility, he wouldn't be able to train his player's much) would involve alot more gameplanning and make it much more enjoyable to coach.

As great a thinker as Drifter is, I actually like this one more as a basis than Drifter's.

Drifter's doesn't give much choice as to what sort of coach you want to become, and doesn't force positional coaches to be coaches at their position (at the very least, the vast majority should be at their position).

Drifter's also has SA trees for coaches. I think putting SA's in trees were a mistake. Since the "coach" module would be something new, let's let people choose SA's "a la carte," so to speak.

The OP's idea needs refining, as any would.

One change I'd make is not to necessarily limit a team to one offensive and one defensive coach at a time. Make the limits based on league level: A total of two (one O, one D) for BBB teams, three for A teams, four for AA teams, and on up to six for Pro teams.

They would have to be as balanced between O and D as possible. A team with an even number would only be able to have half that number on O and half that number on D. With an odd number, they can have one, but only one, more on one side of the ball than the other (2 of one, 1 of the other, or 3 of one, 2 of the other).

New coaches would start out with only position coach skills, and would be best used in that capacity. However, if they placed their points into the broader skills, they could become good as full offensive and defensive coaches (However, they'll always help a bit more those at their original position coach specialty).

OP definately needs refining, but I see alot of promise.. I also think it should have a lot of testing before implementing. ( There are tons of things that could go wrong- best to iron them out before putting it into action )
Overall it gets my +1 .

3) Extend the career of your player by 1 – 5 years. Each season, his skills begin to diminish, declining more rapidly after each consecutive season after the 10th. This would introduce the aspect of not knowing just how good the aged players really are past 10 seasons since the quality of the player is now even more deceptive (we all know that there are crap L35+ players out there somewhere). So a team with all 70ish + leveled veterans could be beaten by team of 50ish + players still in their prime. Each year the player plays, less XX% of flex is recovered, but if the player is converted into a position coach after 15 seasons as a player, he won’t be a snot nosed rookie coach, but still be below “average.”

very stupid imo

less flex points for playing longer? thats just lame
and if you play 5 extra seasons your "coach" would still be blow average? thats lame too because if you retire at 10 years, you get more fp, and you get a "snot-nose"coach
but during that 5 years your snotnose coach gets to be alot better, and the 15 year player retires, gets less fp back and is still not a very good coach.

Should be longer than 10 seasons. Why? Granted that NFL players generally retire after 10 seasons or so if they're great, we're not exactly starting off our players at NFL caliber. The D-Leauges is like Pee-Wee, so after six seasons or so you'd just be making it into college... real players have played for up to 12 years before they make it into the NFL.

Coaching for retired players has been suggested several times before.

As far as retirement, wasn't the plan already to allow players to decline for 1-5 seasons after season 10 before they retire?

The only novel aspect this system adds is screwing players out of their percentage of flex points returned when they do eventually retire, unless they do it right after season 10... no thanks.

pointless in my mind. i don't think we need to make coaches or cheerleaders like the suggestions i have seen before. just stick to GMs and Coordinators and Scouts. plus this would make it much more complicated and much more bitching and complaining.
