Not really on board with the Bi-Modal attributes. Differentiating between Muscle Strength (for blocking, tackling, etc.) and Tendon Strength (Throwing, Kicking) would be good enough for me.
Really like the position / weight caps. I'd actually slant it more toward weight caps because if you're just looking at it by position, a 250 lbs DE would be slower than a 250 3-4 OLB, when it reality they're more or less the same player.
Like the customizable skill tree too. In fact, I wouldn't be opposed to keeping both existing skill trees and allowing players to add whatever other SAs they want, so long as they're paying an out of class penalty to do so. There would have to be some balancing done to mitigate getting around the whole, you have to put points into this skill before taking this one, but I'm sure someone could come up with a workaround for that.
Overall +1, some form of this should be in epic soon.
EDIT: Maybe physical stat caps could be more governed by weight, and skill stat caps could be governed more by position. (i.e. a 250 lbs player would have certain physical skill caps, but a 250 TE would have higher caps in catching than a DE for example. Not saying there would be no crossover though.)
my question is, how do we make the S/A tree replacements retroactive if players have already put points into both trees? Like let's say I have x points in tree a and y points in tree b but i want to replace tree b with a customizable tree...do I lose those points or do I get them back?
That's a good question. I'd have to think about how to appropriately "grandfather-in" existing players into customizable SA trees. I know that people would love to get rid of "Hands" and "Smooth Operator" since they are completely meaningless right now with zero penalties, but that they're necessary for subsequent SAs down the tree and would require points be put back into those SAs if they're replaced using one of the options in the OP to keep the tree legal.
Originally that concept only applied to characters at time of creation, but I could understand getting a portion of the SPs back from those spent for replaced trees. 70% is the norm for refunds in this game. However, that would only be able to be done once upon implementation in a specific window of time, e.g. before Day 0 of the implemented season, as I specified in the OP that it should only occur at creation for the flex point cost.
I don't like removal and re-allocation of skill points in almost any way, but I like losing skill points outright even less.
