Yeah, I hit that benchmark a few weeks ago.

Or maybe before, I just never really tried for it until then. Ended up being a lot easier than I expected.

I'm sure I've also hit whatever goal of "in a month" you were suggesting. I haven't been keeping track, but I've been doing 80-100 a day. Generally two sets of 25 in the morning and before I go to bed.

Thanks Corndog.

So I read an article about University of Oklahoma RB Samaje Perine. He gained 3,004 yards across the this season and the previous season, and has averaged 6.33 yards per carry in the process.

The article recounted story about the advice he received from his strength and conditioning coach when he told that coach that during the holiday break he would be back at his (small) hometown and NOT have access to a gym or weight room. He was told the following:

Oklahoma strength coach Mahala Wiggins suggested a good home workout. Wiggins suggested getting a deck of cards, shuffling them, drawing them one at a time and doing the number of push-ups that appear on the card.

“Aces and Jokers are 20. Kings, Queens and Jacks are 10.

“So Perine goes through the entire deck each morning, then reshuffles and does the same thing with sit-ups.

“Then does the same thing at night.

“That’s 792 push-ups and 792 sit-ups a day — every day — when Perine goes home.”

I tried it for you all tonight (for pushups only). I managed to make it through 44 cards (of the 54 cards--52 "regular" cards plus 2 Jokers". I made it thru 348 pushups in an hour. I intentionally shut myself down at the hour mark--I figured any of us could do the deck if we gave ourself unlimited time.

I'll try this again in two days--I'm going to give myself enough "recovery time" to make it worth my while.

It was a cool workout. It was challenging. And there's some strategy involved, as in "flip the card--then decide do you immediately do the number, or do you rest for a minute or two before attempting a 20-number?

Push ups are the perfect exercise. My push up app creates a good program and tracks everything. Works well

UPDATES:

The writer didn't check his math, and I didn't either. It turns out that there are 456 pushups/situps/whatever involved in this routine.

I managed 53 out of the possible 54 cards in the (arbitrary) 1 hour time limit I set for myself.

I know anyone reading this is thinking "But Larry, you were only 1 card away!"

The problem is, at the 59 minute mark I slammed a "2" card and eagerly drew the FINAL card...

It was the Ace of Spades.....20 pushups. I had already done 436 pushups in the last 59 minutes.

I rested, There was nothing else I could do. Had I even pretended to attempt the last 20 at the 59 minute mark, I could have MAYBE cranked out 8. I don't allow do-overs--I either do the entire number or the attempt doesn't count.

I finished the Ace at the 1 Hour 3 minute mark. I finished the deck. But 3 minutes behind the standard I set.

I still feel good I can tell its working my arms and chest and stomach.

For anyone tempted to try this, clear off the entire hour. You won't have time for much else. You'll either be doing the pushups or recovering from the set you just did. You won't have time for much else.

Lol--found myself afterwards reliving a moment in my past.

Once upon a time there wasn't an internet. Instead, we relied on radio to provide our music.

The problem was, that radio needed advertisers, and advertisers flocked to "mainstream" material rather than taking a chance on edgier material.

That's how I grew up. Reo Speedwagon, Boston, Kiss, Billy Squier, The Cars, .38 Special, Kansas, constituted "rock" radio.

And then along came MTV.

And then along came a certain video.

I don't pretend for a moment that the band in this video is my favorite band. They're probably not even in my top 20.

But when I saw the video they put out (and that MTV aired), that was a wake-up moment.

As in "Wow, I never knew this existed!".

The pushup challenge, particularly the outcome of it, reminded me of that moment.

I did it in 49 minutes tonight.

The key seems to be to just DO any card lower than an 8 the moment you pull it. You have to save up time for later when you pull an Ace or Joker, and the later you get into the deck you find that you need recovery time to even complete a face-card.

Yes, the title no longer matches what we're currently talking about. Welcome to the current topic--what's your thoughts on what we've been discussing?

No clue, I read the first few pages then went to the last page and gave up on catching up on the topic.

Ah pushups, this is a challenge I can do. Well, I could do. I am 30 years old and in my college days I worked at a sports camp and I used to do 100 push ups in under 5 minutes... of course I was highly active back then and I'd probably struggle to do 50 but I look forward to seeing how far I've fallen in less than a decade of laziness.

I did it in 44 minutes tonight.

Again, any card lower than an 8 you have to do IMMEDIATELY, so that you can save some time for rest when you pull a face card or Ace/Joker.

43 minutes tonight.

You just absolutely have to plow through any low card, and then save your strength for the Aces/Jokers or face cards.
