400 M in 72.64 seconds. Mission Accomplished and that might be as good as it gets for me. I thought for a minute that I could shoot for under 70 now but that was my best one by almost 4 seconds. Summer heat/work took about 5-6 lbs. off of my body, cheap target running shoes vs work boots, warm weather vs. cold or I was just in a little better shape then this spring and started running a little. Still can't get in to jogging though.

Hate to even ask for medical advice but I find it strange that my legs are sore along my shin bones in the front like the muscle is torn off of the bone. Hammy, calves, quads and groin all fine but get that strange shin pain when I run. Any ideas on what that is ? I would compare it to a nerve pain, real sharp to begin with like an electrical shock or an intense burning and then 1-2 days of what feels like your normal sore muscles but I can never remember that muscle group being sore.

Dammit. Doesn't sound too serious though at least.

Congrats to you!

I'm running around 3 miles a night about 5 days a week. I *still* don't want to sprint yet, but I know that I will before this summer challenge ends. I just want to get myself as strong as I can before I time myself.

I broke 40 pushups in a minute. Took a couple days off then tried it and it went a lot smoother than I was expecting.

Still scared of the running. I don't like running.

heard of it but for some reason I thought only high school track kids got it. I was a 3 sport athlete in high school albeit a small Midwestern high school but honestly never even considered that.

Really ? I've only known one person that has ever experienced it and it was 7th/8th grade track.

weird.

maybe you have another name for them? it's a bit of a catchall term, unless you're being super technical. pretty much anyone who suddenly changes their running routine will experience them -- harder surfaces, going uphill, more mileage, even changing shoes (and it's not just runners, either). it's mostly a middleaged i-need-to-work-out-all-of-a-sudden weekend injury, but common enough for most people.

Odds are running in boots were a cause, and probably the main cause, for the shin splints. It's nothing against the boots, they just weren't designed for sustained running.

Yeah, there wasn't a sport I played in high school where we didn't have half the team with shin splints, especially during 'hell weeks' or early during the season.

It was definitely worse when I was running in the boots and since that was the start of trying to sprint.

AWESOME FLAG BTW.

Middle aged, work out all of a sudden does describe me but I am shocked that I have never heard of anyone having it, the exception being that girl in high school track.
