I feel that way with OotP baseball and FOF. Feels like each time they come out with a new version, they wreck something that was working fine in the old one ... I think the "if it's not broken, don't fix it" thing is incredibly hard to follow as a game designer. The urge to tinker is always present.
So while I wouldn't want to go back to the '99 version of OotP or '98 version of FOF, each time a new version comes out - I do cringe a bit, I definitely get what you mean there.
