Steve DeOssie was both a LB and long snapper. So is his son Zak.

But I'll be using Centers.

Colts use a TE... though I don't think he's ever actually lined up as a TE.

I think the C makes the most sense. Throwing?? I dont think long snappers really THROW the ball. But like someone said we got the scrimmage games to find out.

Have you ever tried long snapping?

I learned at an instructional camp I attended and practiced from time to time afterwards...its a throwing motion about as much as riding a bike is a running motion - sorta, but not really.

If any skill is going to contribute to long snapping ability, it would be throwing. But that having been said, it would be fundamentally unfair for the game to suddenly require each team have a lineman or TE type player with 35 throwing ability or else be plagued by bad snaps.

As a matter of fact, I have. Sure, it's a two handed motion, but it is still based on throwing. You throw with your right hand and twist with your left. The best way to practice is over your head. If you do this, you'll see it's a lot more like throwing than you think it is. Back to GLB; granted, the throwing skill should not have to be 25+ to get a decent snap, otherwise you should have your C playing QB and throwing long bombs.

I would guess Bort wouldn't make it so your center had to put points in throwing .

Good armstrength and you should do just fine IMO .

I guess 15 in throwing should be decent?

I mean.... Long Snapper need to have a certain skill to snap the ball, right?

He need strength of course to hold off the opposing defender...

Oh well, let's see if Bort say anything

Thanks for the response guys...

Many teams, both in the NFL and College ranks, do not use a olineman for PUNT or long snapping. The main reason behind this is that a punt has to be covered. A slow, unagile (comparatively) lineman would make a poor choice for someone to be running down the field. A player such as a TE/LB makes a much better choice because they can not only block effeciently in the middle, but they can also release down field and cover much more ground.

In theory, you would like your fastest most able bodied tackler who can also block decent (balanced SS anyone) to be your LS. Most punt returns do not have the LS accounted for in the blocking schemes.

Then again, this is GLB and not RL football.

Ya them too, I knew I was leaving out a position that could excel at it.

I don't think a center would be the best long snapper. If you take a look at the setup on punts, the LS isn't opposed by a punt return special teamer, so he doesn't have to block. Ideally it would be someone with speed and agility to be able to get downfield quickly, as he's the closest player to the return man. I'm thinking a CB or S would be the best LS with the way it's set up now.

they might have issues. there is no blocker directly over them, but the traffic can get thick for a player with <20 str.
