We can't have sunder trying to take over my job so I'll get a little something out to the masses. Overall, a very ho-hum week with the closet game all of 16 points.
LEAGUE SURVIVOR Zero eliminations this week as 29 entered. Nearly half advanced (14) with Sofia beating Chile.
GAME OF THE WEEK Truth be told this was the only GOW worth noting as the Las Vegas Chaos beat the LG Canucks 30-14. Chaos jumped out early to a 24-7 halftime lead as QB Brady Gun hit three long TD passes (73, 77 and 52 yards). LG tried to make a scrap of it scoring in the 4th to close the lead but Gun had done his work by that time throwing for over 500 yards.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK QB Brady Gun, Las Vegas Chaos. Gun created chaos for the Canuck D by hit them early and often on the deep ball. Gun opened the scoring in the game with a 73 TD pass to Gustavo Greenwood and followed it up with another first quarter bomb (77 yards) to Jones E. Alexis. Gun was stout on the night completing 40 of 70 passes for 503.5 yds along with the three TD's (only one pick). The effort helped Las Vegas end a four game losing streak.
CASUAL PRO TOURNAMENT Down to eight with two regional pro teams facing off so one will get into the final four.
Sofia - San Dimas: Pass versus the run and I always favor the pass (who doesn't want to see the Spiders play the Revenge again)...34-20. Marqua's - Chile: Revenge has owned Chile for a few seasons so expect the continued winning...34-16. Grand Rapids - Tlingit: Two former pro teams from last season in no doubt will be a battle with the GR winning late...31-28. Not Fast - Charlestown: Is there an auto skip feature on GLB games for these gimme games...255-0.
WEEKLY PICKS Sofia Spiders @ San Dimas Saints - Curious on this one as the Saints totally shutdown the NFJF passing attack and they'll face another passing team in the Spiders. Sofia has not necessarily played like the defending chamnps off to their slow start so I'm going to say the Saints slow the passing game down and have enough O to get the upset here...27-23.
Las Vegas Chaos @ Not Fast, Just Furious - Doubt we'll see a run unless someone is pinned down at the one and I'll roll with my boys making more big plays...49-23.
Vancouver Gorillas @ LG Canucks - This is one where both teams will look at the schedule at the end of the season and say "we needed that W to get into the playoffs." I'll
Charlestown Chiefs @ Alabama Yellowhammers - I'd say the Yellowhammmers have to be one of the more disappointing teams as they've not won a game to date. Cough cough Charleston, I can repeat the same line next week...45-6.
Magua's Revenge @ Running Gag - Here we go! Should be a good one as Gag has yet to be tested. They'll fail this one as the Revenge has already promised a three TD win...28-7.
Juarez Jalapeños @ Chile Chupacabras - Chile needs to start keeping pace and they'll have no issue running all over the Jalapeños in this one...55-10.
POWER RANKINGS 1. Magua's Revenge - Sporting three W's against top five teams...not shabby. 2. Running Gag - Clearly skipped out on the cup of fear of playing NFJF...have not got to the heart of their schedule.. 3. Charlestown Chiefs - Needed a promotion to barely escape NFJF. 4. Sofia Spiders - Another slow start which seems the norm for spider and Co...they just don't respect the power rankings. 5. San Dimas Saints - a new face and new team here as they look to gain a bit more consistency to a fine season to date.
WAY TOO EARLY PLAYOFF PEAK While we are not quite halfway through the season I've got each conference down to five teams fighting for the four playoff spots (yeah yeah, cue in Capt. Obvious). Gag is running away with the West while the Revenge and Chiefs are going to be in a war for that top spot - the one where you don't get Sofia in the first round.
Still early - keep fighting peeps. If you need help call 867-5309 (ask for spider at ext. 1 or for sunder at ext. 69)...$3.99/minute and must be 18 years or older to call.
