Sure, why not?

In week 8, Legacy held the lead midway through the third quarter. From there, Cobden's offense had their way. Drives of 15 plays for 85 yards, 10 plays for 54 yards, and 8 plays for 88 yards gave the Muskrats a 7 point lead with 1:17 left. After Legacy's rush QB answered with a quick game-tying TD, Cobden drove another 27 yards in 6 plays before missing a long field goal with 1 second left. Runnin fans hoping the "stop" at the end of the half would carry over to overtime were soon disappointed. (See below replays.) In all, they allowed 324 yards and 28 points in the last 25 minutes of the game. Congrats, McCoys!

For week 9, I almost went in a completely different direction. But when I took a closer look, it was clear where the fail whale was swimming this week. Dallas gave up 158 yards to Legacy's rush QBs this week... on their first two attempts. When it was all over, numbers were far more staggering. 25 carries for 498.5 yards and 6 TDs. Yue Fei alone galloped for an even 300 yards. Dallas' offense did their job with 5.4 yards per carry, 7 yards per pass, and no turnovers, but they never had a chance in this one. Congrats, Paladins!

Almost forgot week 10. But I'm sure Victoria's special teams hasn't. I am of course referring to this 5th quarter blunder:

As I was typing up last week's fail, this week's fail was simming in a similar fashion. The final score of the Dragons' loss to the Fire Breathers reflects total dominance, but the game didn't start out that way. In the second quarter, after one offensive drive and two defensive drives, Puffington held a 7-3 lead. But they lost a fumble on the punt return, and the Rubber Duckies quickly capitalized with a TD. On the ensuing kickoff it was more of the same, and just like that Puff was down by 7-17 despite a flawless offensive start. But any flawless element was now long gone. They narrowly escaped a turnover two plays later, recovering a fumbled sack, but then gave up a punt return TD two plays after that. The Duckies added to their special teams dominance with a coffin corner punt to the 1.5 yard line with 49 second left in the game, resulting in a safety on the next play. All in all 23, points of special teams pwnage in a 25 point win. Congrats, Magic Dragons!

In week 12, Legacy did something unusual for a heavy running team... they possessed the ball for less than 20 minutes. On the scoreboard, they got off to a fast start with a 78 yard TD run on the second play. After that 37-second drive, they went three-and-out five times. Aside from one 15-play near-masterpiece which resulted in a field goal, they never held the ball more than 2 minutes and 40 seconds on a drive. Defensively, Legacy stopped big plays but forced just one three-and-out, ultimately allowing Burnside to run a balanced attack of 83 plays, including 27 for a first down. Although they trailed just 20-10 after 3 quarters, fatigue was apparent in a lackluster 4th, resulting in a 27-10 loss. Congrats, McCoys!

Dallas throwing two picks to end their game has to be the leading contender.

Week 13 fail goes to the Fire Breathing run defense and pass offense. Cro and the gang are most likely coasting for the season, with the last 5 games featuring at most 2 playoff teams and possibly 0, but a spade is a spade. The run D allowed 257.5 yards at 5.6 a pop to the Vicious ballcarriers. The passing O derailed 6 drives with sacks or interceptions, and it would have been 7 but for a meaningless 4th & 11 long TD pass with 38 seconds left. Up to that point they had completed just half of 36 attempts for 166 yards, minus 35 yards of sacks, an average of 3.2 yards per pass play in the first 59:20 of the game. Congrats, Rubber Duckies!

WEEK 13 FAIL
Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies Run Defense and Pass Offense

Honorable mention: Burnside Bandits end-of-game defense. Although they rallied to tie the game late, the Bandits let Victoria drive 40.5 yards in 45 seconds before the Teabaggers missed a long field goal at the buzzer. In overtime, Burnside's D was pushed back for 54 yards on 9 plays. They got a second chance as the Tea passed up a 40-ish yard field goal on downs 1-3 and nearly lost a fumble, but no such luck for the Bandits whose opportunity to put a stranglehold on the #2 seed was ended with a 4th down kick.

Week 14 fail goes to the conference as a whole for lack of variety. Every fail I considered just seems passé. Same dots running all over the place, same dots racking up sacks (Cobden: You're lucky Vicious' opponent just got the whale last week), same dots throwing for crazy yards, same bad teams getting blown out. Obvious choice would have been Legacy for blowing a 21 point lead, but they've suffered enough. Besides, raise your hand if you feel your team would be safe with a three-score lead against Oseberg... yeah that's what I thought.
