That's fine then... you just blend the Carribean into the South America and Africa into an African/Asia league.

Then those that are left out feel... left out.

It's tough. I like the idea but we can't add 64 teams and if we remove two regional affiliations those regions will feel left out. So where does that leave us. Ideally I'd like to see something like this where people picked new regions:

Western Hemisphere:

North America
South America
Europe

Eastern Hemisphere:

Asia
Africa
Oceania

Maybe that's a good compromise?

Get rid of WL elitism and let the Pro as they're. At least we have some rivalries in there!

I don't like this to be honest. I can't go into massive details at work, but i wanted to get my 2 cents in before the servers exploded again. I'll post more later.

I haven't voted yet but i would consider what effect this would have on recruiting. Right now there is no "best" pro league as much as reps from each area would claim they are the best. If you do this to the pro leagues, it will potentially make it even harder for teams not in the elite league to find players to bring on board.

For example right now most players at that level want to play on WL teams. And if there are still teams that are not 100% farm/network built teams, they snap up all the best players. Then the top teams in the pro leagues get the next shot.

Obviously there are some who look beyond this but from lots of seasons recruiting players, many players tend to be looking for rings or stat trophies for their players. Changing to this system would just stratify the teams and make it even harder for a team that might currently be in a regular pro league to obtain the players to make the push to a "better" league.

I'm not sure whether i will vote up or down on this one, have to give it some more thought on the ramifications, hope everyone else will too. Too many things have been implemented in the past without thinking through all the problems because it sounds like a really cool idea.

I do think eliminating the "named" leagues is fine (though i still think having "Pro" in any league not the current national pro leagues is a bad idea). But stratifying the league into elite/competitive/normal might not be the best way to go about it.

I think we should keep the regional affiliations which is what the World League is based on.

Your fine with the promotion/demotions as outlined, but why not keep the naming of leagues instead of going to this terrible naming scheme we have in the Minors (this should have been done better in the first place with all due respect to DD).

Just go to 2 Elite leagues and 8 Competitive, and name them this:

Pro Elite #1 - Western Hemisphere
Pro Elite #2 - Eastern Hemisphere

These leagues feed the Western Hemisphere:

Pro Competitive #1 - USA
Pro Competitive #3 - Canada
Pro Competitive #5 - South American

These leagues feed the Eastern Hemisphere:

Pro Competitive #2 - Europe
Pro Competitive #4 - Asia
Pro Competitive #6 - African

This is much cleaner and makes more sense with the World League

Huge +1 to this.

-1 to the OP.

Added the following idea/premise to the OP - thoughts?

Idea #2

This is a bit of a merger on the Hemisphere idea and how minor leagues work. Basically it would work like this:

Western Hemisphere (equivalent to Elite #1)
Eastern Hemisphere (equivalent to Elite #2)

Western Hemisphere Feeder leagues
North America
South America
Europe

Eastern Hemisphere Feeder leagues
Oceania
Africa
Asia

Promotion/Demotion

The top 8 teams (winner of first round playoff games) from each Hemisphere would promote to World League. The bottom 16 teams (non playoff teams) from World League would demote to Hemisphere. The bottom 16 teams from each Hemisphere (non playoff teams) would demote back down to Feeder leagues. The losers of first round playoff games from each Hemisphere would be the only teams that would remain. There would be 8 open slots for each Hemisphere. They would be taken by the conference championship game participants in each feeder league and then the next 2 best teams based on current tiebreakers (W-L record first).

The bottom four teams from each conference for each feeder league (total of 48 teams) would demote to Regional Pro. Promoting teams from Regional Pro would take those slots.

1) The normal leagues should not promote ANYONE to the WL. The difference in competition from normal to Elite is extreme. Teams who win normal should promote to Elite, not to the WL.
2) The finalists from Competitive should not promote to WL, it should be the champions only, if at all.
3) Why are you so stuck on having 16 teams drop from the WL? Make it 12 (6 per conference). A team that almost makes the playoffs in WL should get a shot at another season of WL imo. Beacause of the recruitment advantages in being in the WL, allowing teams another season of that advantage will help them to maybe take a shot at the title.

The only reason that Hemispheres aren't a great idea is that it adds one more season between the bottom and the top. This could easily be solved with the Elite league suggestion.

If you get rid of WL then you would at least need a tourney of Pro champions to see who was on top.

Field of 8, game every day not every other, should extend the season a mere 4 days. Worth it IMO.

Though I kinda like the World League, it might be worth keeping the pro leaguers together with their mates.

If WL Is the top tier of competition, then you want to spread that loving around as much as possible for maximum player satisfaction. Hence the 16 rotation.

Not sure why 16 teams have to drop from the WL. And wouldn't making the 2 hemisphere leagues remove the need for a WL?
