good update. something you might want to add without making it too complicated for newer players is maybe point out the ALG's and how they change and lvl off at 38. ? not sure if it's worth adding or mentioning, but...

thanks again and I'll continue to point newer players to this post.

There seems to be conflicting (confusing) information. We should never use SP's right away because of training levels but yet in your example you suggest using SP's on a level 3 blocker to reach the first soft cap?

Also, don't we lose half the SP value once we hit the first softcap? Does that matter? So, when is it best to use SP's? My head's spinning after reading this guide and the Wiki stuff.

The reason for hitting the first softcap (and continuing to spend sp to the 3rd, 4th, or 5th soft cap) is because of the benefit of auto level gains above the caps, and at higher values, caps get closer together.

Let's say you get .5 for leveling. If you go from 49 to 49.5 that is worth 1 sp. If you go from 62 to 62.5 that is worth 1.5 sp. If you go from 69 to 69.5 that is worth 2 sp.

When an attribute is at 85 natural, going up from 88 to 88.25 is worth 2.5 sp.

so you should train all the way to your first soft cap, as opposed to using skill points once you've hit 45ish or something even if you are about to boost?

Your part about the training is somewhat confusing.

I don't see how you would hit the soft cap for an ability without using any skill points in just one season through normal training, even if you get the 10% bonus for it immediately, or is my math wrong/I'm misinterpreting what you are trying to get across?

No. Train until you have enough skill points saved up to hit the first cap.

The only thing is look at your decimal place. If you are at say 28.5 and have a .5 ALG, then you can train until you hit 29 and cap at 49. There is no benefit to capping at 48.5 over capping at 49.

in a nutshell: dont spend SPs until you can cap because training is better the lower the attribute is (and spending SPs will make said attribute higher making training less efficent.). but once you can cap (attribute+saved SPs=cap), then you use your SPs. then, after you cap it, switch training to your next attribute, but continue to dump SPs into the attribute you capped until you get it to the desired cap. once at the desired cap, start dumping SPs into the attribute you were training and switch training to your next attribute, ect, ect.

there are also more in depth strategies likes the whole 'There is no benefit to capping at 48.5 over capping at 49.', but this is the bare bones basics of it. once you understand that and have that down, then you can learn new fancy tips and tricks, like training to ~85% and then training over once you get to the desired cap among other things.

If have bigger training percentage gains on an attribute the lower that skill point level is for your player. Just an example, say you made two guards on the same day, one you used your SP and boosted his strength as high as you could. The second player, you saved his SP and are training him first:

Rufus -Guard-
Strength - 40

Rufus II - Guard -
Strength -15-

Your training percentage gains for strength on Rufus !! will be quite a bit higher due to his lower SP strength level. This is just an example, the numbers will obviously be different. What everyone is saying is that it's better to train and save your SP (which will go further for your build) than to dump all your SP right away into strength (or any attribute) and then try and train at a hugely LOWERED percentage rate for the life of your player.

The best way to learn is to do it yourself. If you have the flex, create two players same hgt/wt and for the same position. Build one by dumping all SP you can into whatever main attribute you want to build first. On the second guy, save your SP, and train that same attribute. At the end of the season, you will see what levels each are at and how many SP you have to dump into each. Then you'll know firsthand the difference. (I'd suggest a guard or other player that doesn't require much flex)

If you don't plan or want to build two guards (or same players other positions) then keep reading and always ask questions. Someone will answer them.
