Not bad. I'd change flashy to "eyes downfield" or something like that.

Damned fine idea. Differently built WRs will be more common with this and also can help balance with a "Hit when catching" that has a chance to drop the catch or fumble the ball. Assuming we had a slider for this, If you focus too much on the ball, you're gonna get hit HARDER more often. Focus too much downfield and you'll miss your easy catches etc.

Interesting idea, never thought of the chance of being hit harder with more focus on the ball. If this is implemented it has to be a slider.

Agree with that it has to be a slider.

Catch & Run-Bonus to agility/speed and break tackle% after catch -catching+increase fumble chance %

Normal-No Bonus

Look It In-Bonus to catching -vison+increase big hit%

Good call; I'd hate to see this suggestion fall by the wayside. It's a really good idea and it seems to match what I actually see watching football (e.g. B. Marshall, who seems to drop a few passes every game because his eyes are already downfield).

Not trying to be against anything but....shouldn't your WR be able to catch the ball better because he has a higher catching attribute....I understand the tackling theory, you can either try to rip the ball loose or just wrap the carrier up....you see it ever game in the NFL and college...players trying to rip the ball loose instead of just making the tackle. But the ability to change a WR is kinda stupid...I really don't think guys like Fitzgerald actually think about how their gonna catch the ball. I think after every catch he makes it's his intention to score. These ideas should be in the WR's build....you wanna make more catches, up your catching attribute....you wanna make more play's after the catch, up your vision and agility. JMO

I like the overall idea, but not how the look it in would work as described here. The only negative to look it in should be a reduced ability to make YAC.

You're not wrong, I think the intention here though is to enhance the notion of "building your player your way". The way the game is built from the WR position, if you aren't built as a Devin Hester-like "speed guy who can catch", you aren't going to find a lot of success. Certainly not as much as a guy built with like 80 speed and low-30s catching. Sure he's gonna drop a lot more balls than the guy with 40's speed and 50's catching, but the ones he catches are likely going for 6. And that's the measure of a great GLB receiver.

With an idea like this, those possession receivers have another way to really excentuate their positives and maybe not be so underlooked/undervalued.

I like the general idea of being able to choose how your receiver catches the ball. I also like the idea of it being a slider rather than a drop down.

I think players think about how they are going to catch a ball as it is thrown to them. Someone who drops the ball a lot and who is aware of it will stop to think about catching it every time...end result more catches. Someone who catches the ball all the time but gets hassled by teammates/coaches/etc about not getting YAC may be more worried about getting yards and drop the pass more often because they are thinking about running to the end zone.

While the OP talks about people controlling their catching, the example I give is basically backwards to what was suggested...but in terms of this game I think it would work out pretty well. It gives each receiver a choice in what they want their player to do...be a speed demon and barely make catches or be the go-to guy for a 1st down.
