Or let me use my FS/SS tandem to double the TE. I know we will get there eventually, but that's really what we need. This is a good start, though. I can see rushing attacks being brought down with the ability to cram LB's up into the gaps pre-snap.

You can do all of that with the man coverage hierarchy.

I would suggest that the higher level league you are, the more complex the game is.

Pee Wee league and BBB would be the same as season one. Just input the % pass versus run. A and AA leagues get offensive and defensive tactics, AAA gets offensive and defensive playbooks and Pro leagues get to design plays.

and I'm all for putting the CB right at the line of scrimmage but only if it would create a Jam coverage

It'd be nice to have some sort of hierarchical scheme, where you can build a set of plays for each formation, and duplicate names within the formations. For example, if I want to create a true Tampa-2 scheme, I'd want to be able to build a "Tampa 2 base" play out of the 4-3, 4-2-5-, 3-3-5, etc and select it in the AI by formation and then play name.

+ a bunch. Not a huge deal, but I'd like to have my base 4-4 as a saved template to create different variations.

Excellent alpha and great first step. Obviously there is more to come but I wanted to add my suggestions:

1 - Asscoiate Defensive alignment with offensive alignment...i.e if offense comes out in 5 wide, an appropriate defense is selected. This I think should take into consideration the players on the field as well. I.E. for second and long I want to put in a 3 - 3 - 5. Based on that 3 - 3- 5 I want this variation and coverage against a shotgun, this variation and coverage against a pro-set. That way teh defense doesn't just to automatically select a formation based on offensive formation and never have the potential of being caught with the wrong players on the field.

2 - More granularity in defensive formation. I.E. Linemen and LB's be able to be assigned to a specific tech. This makes it much more specifc in defensive alignment and negates the necessity to have an offensive alignment visible.

3 - Defensive line stunts - Allow common stunts with teh defensive line..i.e. pinch, twist, curl, etc

4 - gap assignments/Blitz assignments - Give us the ability to specify gap assignments. So if I have a 3 - 3- 5 I can tell LDE to blitz C, LOLB to blitz B, NT to blitz Left A, MLB to blitz right A, etc etc. If not blitzing it still gives us the ability to assign them gaps to give them an area of responsibility.

5 - Man Coverage options - Bump off line and play tight, play loose, bump and play loose, etc

4-4 is pretty much a 46.

i am a little nervous about allout linestacking blitzes. this could cause all kinds of problems for any offense. there's no real quick read throws available.

1. Make it easier to tell which zone covers where

2. Make something to show a Spy

3. Insert the O-Line so we can choose holes

4. Show where blitzes go so we can move the blitz

5. Make it so there are more options to D-Line such as making them able to Spy, be able to tell them to go around somebody or make a loop so in a 3-4 you could come in with 3 linemen down the middle.

6. The ability to change who is on the field on certain plays, because on defense you cannot do that with specific roster spots.

Great list, I would like to see all these.

By far, my biggest complaint with the Alpha version.
But the Alpha version is a great start, though!

Not urgent, but for those of us who DC more than one team it would be nice to be able to import our "playbook" and save hours of work. If not done officially, is this possible with greasemonkey?

I love this creator, and it's going to be great; but here's some constructive criticism as it exists now:

There need to be symbols showing what each player is doing, like with predesigned defensive plays, where there's an arrow showing who's blitzing, a blue line to show man coverage, and there needs to be some symbol for a Spy instruction.

Right now you can only tell by the diagram if someone's in a zone or if he's doing something else.

Also, in another thread, someone brought up Madden overload blitz abuse, that people find ways to make defensive plays so that there's really no way to stop them, such as two blitzers coming through the same spot with a DLman or something.

I'd suggest that no one moved to a "custom" position be permitted to blitz if he's not a D-Lineman (partially because D-Linemen by their nature are "blitzing" pretty much every play, and also it only lets you slightly move D-linemen in the drag and drop anyway).

Others who know more about how people who abuse Madden that way do it can give more specific advice on preventing it and on preventing other "perfect" defensive plays.

Why? Let's let everyone have the fun.

Bort will have to make sure it can't be overly exploited, but for heaven's sake the best game Bort can make should be available to everyone.

Make sure there is a link to custom plays from defensive AI screen. Currently, there is not.

I'd like to see the goal line in there too. It'd be nice to move some guys around there.

+1

While that's a great idea, I expect it would involve a pretty big update on the offensive line blocking schemes. Let's see how they settle out first? Right now there are some pretty big holes in the interaction of the offensive line, and backfield blockers and blitzers.

I'm almost certain someone will make a greasemonkey script for this, but not yet because it just came out

(1) What happened to goal line? These following 2 features in a revamped goal line D would be essential...

- The ability to select what positions appear in goal line D (i.e. FS and ROLB are currently left out, but might be the strength of your defense).

- The ability to select assignments in goal line D (right now we can't do jack with goal line D)...

(2) More creativity in base formations:

- A lot of NFL teams are playing Defense with only 2 down-lineman. Would be nice if we could have something like that to play with since, especially against very 1-dimensional sets like 5WR.

- As has been mentioned... but stunting the D-Line is also closely tied to this line of thinking....

- The ability to put unlimited numbers of any position in a formation.... especially for teams with several hybrid build players. Being able to play with 3 safeties or 5 LBs in some sets would really allow for teams to make a better use of their depth at certain positions....

(3) More maneuverability with LBs pre-snap

- I tried playing with the quarter package and could not line the LB outside of the DE's... Would like formations where we have the freedom to line up LBs anywhere on the field.... even at CB to double cover a WR.... Or even in the secondary with the safeties...

(4) Ability to jam WRs at the line...

- Would like the option to do this and take advantage of safety help up top... or doubling a WR with 2 CBs... This would help make the game more realistic against these speed WRs that have no strength. Just as power backs received a boost this season... some thing needs to be addressed about WRs with no strength... They should not be able to get off the line as easily as they currently are doing.... especially against a double team on the LOS...

(5) Ability to flare DEs out....

- A lot of speed rushing DE's in the NFL take really wide positions outside the tackles... Would be nice if we could do this (pretty much the same spot the outer LB lines up in strongside and weakside shifts)....
