The forums have always been the game. The amount of users that seriously wanted to win in order to obtain a make believe trophy that will forever disappear by 2018 were small. The amount of users that wanted to win in order to talk shit in the forums was much larger.

I honestly think they've made almost all the money they are going to make and this game will not be around much longer. You're speaking as if they have much to gain or lose.

This is something I've been arguing for some time.

I love how you equate talking trash in the forums to random forum banter. Saying the forums have always been the game is super vague like you are making some sort of point. But you aren't. What was small was the niche crowd that care about forum moderation and the fact that they couldn't just troll people beyond oblivion. Most people don't really care about moderation or the people that were perma banned or ever banned.

Your speaking like you know the financial cost of operating the game. Which neither of us do. If something is getting cheaper, the refund is getting smaller or being taken away.

The game itself was a big deal in 2008. Every once in a blue moon major changes would be made to draw people back to the actual game for a short time. But no, the forums for the most part have always been much bigger than the actual game.

Do you seriously think they are selling much flex at this point?

Back when GLB2 was first released, there was a very telling statement that one of Bort's biggest regrets with GLB1 was listening to us rather than pursuing his own vision. Regardless of how you view the wisdom of that perspective, it's indicative of how Bort feels and therefore how WG can be expected to operate. Essentially, save your breath because no one is listening anymore.

Again, saying the forums were the game isn't really a point being made.

For GLB1? Doubtful. Most people are living off their 70% flex return. I would guess there are some small flex buys to tide people over but nothing major.

I don't know how popular MB is (or even the cost of it for that matter) but I do know of people buying sizeable flex packages for GLB2.

Does make me wonder about their steam game though if flex will be used to play that.

I think it's safe to say MB was a major bust. Most of the people I know that play or played 2.0 were using old flex.

They should listen to me when I advise them to create a M.U.S.C.L.E.S./rasslin' game. Something original-ish. Not a 2.0 of GLB or a knockoff of another game.

Yeah, they're mostly people that don't own or coordinate and log on once a week at most.

I know of several users just from teams I'm affiliated with who are very active on a near-daily basis, who post in their team forums frequently, and who never post in public forums. They don't even read or surf the public forums unless someone directs them to something specific.

I get your point, but I think it's overly simplistic to base user activity on forum activity and draw any correlations. There has always been a large contingent of users here whose activity cannot be judged by their forum activity, and that doesn't mean they're not active users. The only people who would know just how large a percentage of the userbase that is would be Bort and company -- if they even attempt to quantify and identify that userbase, which I'm not sure they do other than in the abstract.

If this was my business, this is the userbase I would attempt to reach out to and ask: What made you come here? What makes you stay? What would make you stay longer? The answers to those questions are the ones that would probably keep this site running.

A lot of the people that play GLB2 are old GLB1 users honestly.

Have you checked out the players for their steam game? They look like MUSCLES guys.

Looking at what few leagues are left and all the CPUs that populate them I have a hard time believing there are many people that play, buy flex, but just don't post. I know one or two but they are not the silent majority that many pretend exists. You look through the leagues and it's basically the same handful of agents creating dots for many of the teams.

Now that the game has contracted so much people can no longer hide behind the silent majority explanation.
