I already said this tho

that might change the number of hurries but how exactly did it change the qb thought process? specifically against a 3 or 4 man rush?

# of times bad throw was caused by hurry - 29 (5.66%)

http://goallineblitz.com/game/full_player_stats.pl?player_id=2310397&playoffs=0
30 hurry, 23 bad throws = 76%

what changed?

run real defenses on the test server meethinks

Yeah, in my QBs 6th season he was hurried 275 times and only had 30 bad throws. Only had a bad throw 11% of the time he was hurried. In his 14th season (Season 30) he was hurried 175 times and had 119 bad throws. Had a bad throw 68% of the time he was hurried. Thats with around 50-60 more confidence than his 6th season.

I remember when people were bitching that hurries were lol since they had practically zero affect on QB throws (If anything it seemed like the QB was more likely to complete the pass).

Here is what I found in the changelog regarding this - at least in recent history -

Jun 11, 2012

- Reduced bad throw chance a little more in general
- Increased strength of confidence in avoiding hurried bad throws

Apr 16, 2012
- (9am patch) Increased vision check difficulty for QB to get rid of the ball early due to an incoming defender
- (9am patch) Added a couple more instances where pocket presence can help avoid a bad throw when hurried
- (9am patch) Added a hurry effectiveness bonus for heavier, stronger players and players with better tackling
- (9am patch) Increased effect of hurries on potential for bad passes
- (9am patch) Fixed issue where a hurry was sometimes credited to a defender who was not the best choice for the hurry credit, or when no hurry should really have been credited
- (9am patch) Fixed bug where a slower QB could be pressured into throwing early in the play by a nearby lineman who hadn't been blocked yet

Don't fucking SAY more confidence = less bad throws when the qb with the most in the game plays worse with more confidence compared to dots with as much as 20 conf less

The problem is the confidence attribute doesnt exist in a vacuum. There can be any number of other factors leading to the bad throws when hurried. Confidence helps yes, but there are other pieces to the puzzle.

The biggest contributor to bad throws is hurries. Track bad throws and completion % with hurries and you will see that the former increases dramatically while the latter decreases dramatically with more hurries. For most QBs 50% of their throws will be bad passes when they are hurried and their completion % typically falls into the 30s.

Also 75 confidence is not high for a QB. My QB has 85. Many suspect also that dump pass is buggy but maybe it was fixed.

If anything probably a large contributing factor to the number of bad passes is the number of long passes. Offenses on GLB for a long time have essentially just chucked the ball deep (20+ yards downfield) almost every play or every other play. What is more some teams were able to complete a very high percentage of these passes. This is not a realistic style of offense nor a realistic result from it and so several changes were made to improve short and intermediate passing while curtailing deep passing. What you are seeing now is probably a more realistic result for the type of offense teams are used to running. So I doubt GLB will change it because what is happening now seems to be exactly the result the changes were meant to produce.

In the past most teams thought, why run or pass short? I'll just throw it deep every time. Even if I only complete half we'll still score a lot. And if you could complete half doing this then I agree, why not? The answer obviously was that you should not be able to complete a high percentage of deep balls so GLB changed the sim to reflect this by making long passes harder to complete and by improving blitzing. Both should result in more bad passes if you try to do little more than pass it deep all game.

Thats another contributing factor that most people dont realize. If you are using plays that take longer to develope, the chances of a hurry/bad throw increase.

Confidence has never been important for a QB. It should be, but no empirical test has ever shown a significant sim benefit.

My QB had like 115 confidence in last season's playoffs...he was awful in the playoffs.
