I don't have a preference for either side but I think this is a great move. OTs might have to use a little more stragedy now. I'm really tired of seeing the 110 strength OTs dominate.

http://test.goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=803&pbp_id=191203

In that play, the defense doesn't even get a chance to get any pressure because the QB gets the ball off in under 2 seconds. I'm not sure a QB can backpedal like that and get a throw off. Is there a way you can make the QB come to a stop before getting the throw off? That would be more realistic (and if they sense hurry pressure after stopping, then they could move around and you could use various attributes to determine that behavior)

Conclusion - something needs to be done. I don't know exactly what but maybe some increases in DE effectiveness or reducing the effectiveness of OT's would be a good start.

The QB backpedals faster than the D-line advances. There could have been no O-line at all on that play, and it would not have even been a hurry.

QB backepdal looks fine. To me, the DL get-off is too slow and lethargic...no explosiveness whatsoever.

I like theories being tossed around about OT's backpedaling - this could actually make bullrushing or combo evasive/bullrush effective. I've seen Robert Mathis - who obviously gives up a lot of strength and size to opposing RT's - bullrush them into the dust because his speed/agility gets them off balance as they backpedal and thus they lose all leverage. Same is done by Freeney on the other side. Always awesome to watch them do this.

BTW, excellent thread. Thanks Hazy. I was really concerned about my DE until reading this. Good stuff.

That could be an OL tactic. Backpedal quickly to stop speed demons or more slowly to stop bullrushers. Brillant!

words cannot even describe my ecstasy at this being tested. even with a very fast OT, there should be no reason at all that he can beat my faster DE in a footrace while running backwards then pancake me on the very next play.

Looking at the back-pedal more closely, that QB had 70 speed and 60 agility, so i don't have a problem with it after all

You are dead on however, the D-line is lethargic as hell off the snap. That could be a build issue, many DEs in GLB get off the ball very quickly.

Agreed 100% on the Mathis/Freeney comparisons...I see a couple of DEs who do that (JJ for one) but it seems awfully hard to replicate.

Very nice work hazy, it would be nice to have a DE that could at least participate in a game. We might as well sign DEs that are 10 levels lower than the average and save some money.....we would get the same results.

WAY TO GO HAZY!

You've done a great service to all of us DE owners out there...

So from myself, and the rest of GLB

Thank You!

(hopefully Bort now sees what needs to be done...)

Not only for the DE owners but also for the OT owners. I sure would like to come on here and see some production from my DE and also to know that my OT isn't going to dominate the games. Be more interesting that's for sure.

From an old O-Line advocate, I'm glad to see that the scales are going to be fixed.
Hazy, you're the kind of guy that makes this game so great.
