In that play, the defense doesn't even get a chance to get any pressure because the QB gets the ball off in under 2 seconds. I'm not sure a QB can backpedal like that and get a throw off. Is there a way you can make the QB come to a stop before getting the throw off? That would be more realistic (and if they sense hurry pressure after stopping, then they could move around and you could use various attributes to determine that behavior)
Conclusion - something needs to be done. I don't know exactly what but maybe some increases in DE effectiveness or reducing the effectiveness of OT's would be a good start.
The QB backpedals faster than the D-line advances. There could have been no O-line at all on that play, and it would not have even been a hurry.
QB backepdal looks fine. To me, the DL get-off is too slow and lethargic...no explosiveness whatsoever.
I like theories being tossed around about OT's backpedaling - this could actually make bullrushing or combo evasive/bullrush effective. I've seen Robert Mathis - who obviously gives up a lot of strength and size to opposing RT's - bullrush them into the dust because his speed/agility gets them off balance as they backpedal and thus they lose all leverage. Same is done by Freeney on the other side. Always awesome to watch them do this.
Looking at the back-pedal more closely, that QB had 70 speed and 60 agility, so i don't have a problem with it after all
You are dead on however, the D-line is lethargic as hell off the snap. That could be a build issue, many DEs in GLB get off the ball very quickly.
Agreed 100% on the Mathis/Freeney comparisons...I see a couple of DEs who do that (JJ for one) but it seems awfully hard to replicate.
