I thought I read somewhere that you'll be able to for season 9?

Ok, a question coming out of Bort's response on M2M:
Where an SS or HB has reads to cover the RB, HB, TE, etc, will he reamin at the custom location we've placed him on the field at the snap, and he'll do his reads from there, picking up the first of those offensive players to go on a pass route?

If a player is set to M2M he will line up directly over the player he is set to cover, regardless of where you put him.

Why does it have to be this way. It would be nice to have the CB line up a little inside of the WR at times instead of right on top of him. Same with LB's. What if I want the LOLB to cover the HB and I know he is going to run a flat route to the right. I want the LOLB to start out in the flat so the HB's speed can't blow by him. This way the LOLB is already in the area and ready for the play like I designed.

How about having three settings for m2m, m2m-I, m2m-O and m2m. Inside, Outside and Dead Center. Then you can have your player line up to the outside of the field, inside of the field or dead center on their coverage.
This would be real nice if you added bump n run too. CB's could actually create a containing defense that tries to force the O into a smaller field.

That would be nice. Lots of times you want to protect the inside because of the threat of a quick slant. This way you could plan for it. Would be very helpful.

What's the point of moving guys then - and I'd still like an answer on where LB lines up if he has multiple reads.

I would guess over the first read. If that player does not run a route then he would look for the second. A more interesting question would be if the sim already knows that the first read is not running a route will the LB line up over the second read?

yea i wonder that too....
Say you set the LOLB to cover man. first option is TE... 2nd is FB and 3rd is HB.
1. say the TE doesnt run a route.... he is in for max protection. does...
A. the LOLB stay and cover a man who isnt running a route and the TE blocks him...
B. The LOLB goes to the next coverage which is the FB.

No, the players are no long omnicient. They'll line up over their man and then have to make a read on what to do after that if their man sticks around to block.
I like the shading idea. I doubt I can get it done right away, but it could be a good add in the future.

Excellent, this is the answer I was hoping for regarding reads - thank you...and please, give us a bit of leeway to hang ourselves with the DPC with the ability to have a defender assigned to M2M to start out wherever we want on the field (within the current positional confines) not necessarily be right over his guy at the snap.

lining up over the guy at snap only applies to WR's or players outside the box. If you put a guy in man on a HB for instance, he's going to stick around where he's at (such as an LB or a SS cheated up).
