BADGER'S WORLD - WEEK 1

First, daylight savings can't be on a Monday at 2 p.m.? Who the hell thought of doing the spring forward on the weekend - they need a beatdown.

Season 40 is knocking on all our doors as we prepare to kick yet another season off. If your like me and have been around since season one bravo. If not, save your "I joined in season six" reply post - you don't count.

Get your agents on your team to get signed up for survivor (it's open for week one).

As we progress through the season I'll include:
-Players of the week (new owners, players who lose or are involved in winning in blowouts are not eligible)
-Weekly predictions
-Tracking Survivor
-Following of the off season tourney action (GLB tourney and GROWL - no TOC or Ravens this season)
-Players to watch (periodic)
-Failures of the week (top three - if there are three)
-Upset of the week (if there is one)
-Power Rankings (have gone with the eight but may cut down to five)
-GLB Rankings (periodic)
-Mid Season Review (after week eight)
-Playoff Breakdown (usually to early but toward the end of the season)
-Playoff Predictions (when the playoffs start)
-Probably some other crap as I haven't thought this out well

WEEK 1 PREDICTIONS

Let's see if it's "LOL east" or "LOL west" in the cross-conference games. It was lol east last season but the east kept the gold trophy on that side for the third straight season.

Manchester United vs. Alaskan "War" Raven - Oddly while a week one I peg this as an important one for both squads who I envision fighting for a playoff birth in there respective conference. I think after the close losses last season United will buck up for the equipment and win some of those tight ones - this being one of them...27-20.

Royal Drunken Monkey Spankers vs. Prussian Revolution - LT may not be around but the Revolution will be in good hands with sunder and should renew the Casual Pro run with a win over another new squad...27-13.

Charlestown Chiefs vs. Bier Markt - Speaking of sunder, he'll probably pay a little more attention to this one as former champions meet up (how hard would it do to have the teams that played in the title game match up in week one - that should be an auto for our league).

Baltimore Crimewave vs. Legacy's Casual Pride - Don't know much yet about Pride so I'll lean over to the Crimewave who shook a few demons to make the playoffs last season. I expect they'll be there again and Casual Pride gets to see why...27-17.

Fareham Hell Hounds vs. Green Bay Maulers - see United/Raven game - could play big to how each teams early success or failure may play out. I do think while the Maulers are going to be in the decline they'll have the offensive superiority in this game...34-20.00

San Dimas Saints vs. Detroit Muscle - Muscle versus the Peaks, wait, that would be to hard to set up. Instead we get to see the Muscle open the season against a new team and I cannot see a very friendly welcoming party by Vinn & Co....44-3.

Her Majesty's Dragons vs. Washington Wildcats - All we have is the Wildcats not fully boosted so this will be a good litmus test for them against one of the better teams in the league. The Dragons will show them where they are weak and should win this going away...31-10.00

Macon Mo Bacon vs. Motor City Mustangs - Mustangs have taken a nose dive out of the playoffs the last few seasons and I just don't see them bouncing back this year. Look for the newbs Mo Bacon to get that first win in week one before heading to conference action...20-13.

Uh Oh! HOOD gone Casual vs. The Barbarians - I'd peg this as a "one to watch" as I expect both of these soon to
be playoff teams to throw some haymakers but one of the D's will come up big late and that will be the Barbarians (not a big fan of the new team name)...24-23.

Florida State Seminoles vs. Sofia Spiders - FSS has some chemistry issues early on but I think they will still win this game as they seem locked and loaded to do some damage this season...40-20.

The Dirty Birds vs. Twin Peaks - I really like this one for a week one cross league game. I think (think being the scary word here) that it will be a lowering scoring game and I don't know who that will favor. I pulled a coin off my desk and the Birds won the toss...24-23.

Full Perky Tets vs. DotBall Warriors - Don't know much about the Warriors so let's see what they have as the Tets will be a stiff challenge (not describing the owners anticipated arousal status at kickoff so no jokes on that please). I do believe the Tets will win this one with a strong defenisve effort that will limit the Warriors in there opener...31-10.

Moscow Musketeers vs. Grave Diggers Union - Moscow is still scratching the old head after the upset last season and no doubt they take it out on the Grave Diggers...54-6.

French Toast Mafia vs. Austin Longhorns - Mafia just missed the playoffs last season so they know every game is important and they should run all over the Longhorns...45-6.

DIABLO DOTS vs. High Seas Marauders - The Marauders are back looking for some improvement but I don't think the DOTS plan on giving out too many high fives and butt pats in this one. The DOTS D will shut down the High Sea O and I expect a huge time or possession difference between the two offenses...59-6.0

London Fletchers vs. Potent Potables - Some may be surprirsed here me not picking London since I have a little connection with them but I know every game they play will be up an hill battle that they likely won't win or even be in the game. With that out of the way Potent should roll...51-3.

PRE-SEASON CONFERENCE PREDICTIONS

EAST

1. Detroit Muscle - The Muscle went from LOL second round to the most dominating team in the league last season. The marks on the back in bright red so we'll see if the Muscle can maintain the top spot.
2. Bier Markt - We could certainly fall from grace not having our guru around this off season but with him back I do think Markt will have another successful season that will hopefully put that last playoff loss out of the brain housing group.
3. DIABLO DOTS - DOTS have no chemistry issues and playing the most scrimmages of anyone certainly makes this team one of the easts better teams.
4. Her Majesty's Dragons - Dragons slipped a little at the end of the season but make no mistake that this is one of the easts top teams.
5. The Dirty Birds - Loved what they did in the playoffs and to close the season. Now, if they can keep that up from the start of the season they very well could push for a top four seed.
6. Florida State Seminoles - Will have some early chemistry issues toppled with a tough schedule and this team could very well start the season off at 0-5. I don't see that happening but even getting out at 2-3 would be a win in my book.
7. Uh Oh! HOOD gone Casual - I have the feeling we'll see some HOOD cares this season but it may not be enough to get back into that elite category they use to reside in.
8. Alaskan "War" Raven - Have made the playoffs two straight seasons but once again they'll be tested and they should pass by grabbing the eight seed.
9. Fareham Hell Hounds - Were just shy of the playoffs last season and will be just shy once again this season.
10. Grave Diggers Union - new team, auto bottom until I see what they're capable of.
11. DotBall Warriors - new team, auto bottom until I see what they're capable of.
12. London Fletchers - new team, auto bottom until I see what they're capable of.
13. Legacy's Casual Pride - new team, auto bottom until I see what they're capable of.
14. Royal Drunken Monkey Spankers - new team, auto bottom until I see what they're capable of.
15. Motor City Mustangs - don't seem to be doing much with the roster and that's not good in the east.
16. Austin Longhorns - don't seem to be doing much with the roster and that's not good in the east.

WEST

1. Moscow Musketeers - Went 14-2 last season and I expect them to be in contention for the top spot once again. The two losses were by a combined 17 points but it must be noted while they lost two close games they also had several tight wins (four by nine or less) so it will be interesting how the Musketeers respond to those close games this season.
2. Charlestown Chiefs - Got taken out by the Peaks in the conference championship game last season but once again will be the veteran bully team that will have the target on the back. You want to see how good your team is - beat these guys (or try to beat them I should say). Look for the Chiefs to once again be the toast of the west.
3. Full Perky Tets - The Tets have not yet peaked over the mountain into the title game although they've been close several times. Once again the team will be stocked with the talent to get there and time will tell if they can get a big win when all the marbles are on the deck.
4. Twin Peaks - Made one of the most impressive runs making it to the title game last season upsetting three teams with higher seeds. I'd like to see more consistency in the regular season but then again why show your cards early as they caught three teams by surprise. I expect the Peaks to pick up where they left off and push for a three, four, or even five seed again then turn it on in the playoffs.
5. The Barbarians - Not sure if a name change will change the fortune of the team around from a 4-6 seed but we have some better expectations this year than last season so we'll throw the dice and see what comes up.
6. Sofia Spiders -
7. Potent Potables - Potent should probably be a little higher up on the rankings as they did beat the Tets in round one last season and dropped a close one in round two. However, like some of the five through nine a playoff spot is going to be a fight in the west but the Potables should get in and see if they can cause some more damage to higher seeds once again.
8. Baltimore Crimewave - The Wave made it into the playoffs and had a tough three point loss in round one and now the question will be can they get back and win a round one game. It won't be a giving to make the playoffs as this team will have to duke it out with a few others but they should get in and will be a dangerous round one game.
9. French Toast Mafia - The Mafia were like a roller coaster looking great at times and not so great at certain points. They'll need to get some consistency to make that push into the playoffs - they're so close right now and will battle a few others for a birth this season.
10. Prussian Revolution - Revolution and LT56 & Co. may be a new team but have had great success and I expect that to continue once fully boosted (not to mention winning gold last season while in the ole 73's). Look for Prussian to be one of the better new teams and to possibly contend with the big boys for some home field game/s.
11. Manchester United - This team lost five games by 10 or less points last season and some of that luck will need to change around if they're going to get back into the playoffs.
12. Green Bay Maulers - First season decline and where Taut got away with it I don't think MK and the Maulers will. I'm not saying they won't win but they will be hurting the further along the season goes and as shown in the preseason tourney they can hang with the big boys but not always pull the W out.
13. Washington Wildcats - new team, auto bottom until I see what they're capable of.
14. Macon Mo Bacon - new team, auto bottom until I see what they're capable of.
15. San Dimas Saints - new team, auto bottom until I see what they're capable of.
16. High Seas Marauders - not a new team to the casual ranks but still need to show me a little something.

BADGER'S ELITE EIGHT POWER RANKINGS
1. Detroit Muscle - They showed last season they're no longer just the king of the regular season after fighting through the demons to capture their second title (first was in season 17). The Muscle will once again be the bad boys on the block.
2. Moscow Musketeers - Moscow will own the regular season in the west but much like a few teams will need to prove they're more than regular season wonderkids. The Musketeers did get to the second round and will look to capture back some of that momentum heading into the new season.
3. Bier Markt - I'm not sure how it will be once our fearless leader returns from his prolonged vacation (he's back but still MIA). Hopefully the fun and sun of Hawaii have recharged the batteries in the Canadian because we missed his leadership and he's what makes the Markt go. With some roster turnover Bier will look to get back into the title game and show that the playoff beatdown is a thing of the past.
4. DIABLO DOTS - Riding high after getting into the second round but mostly after beating FSS two of three times. The monkey may be off the back there but they'll still need to push through the playoffs and get back into the final. With no chemistry issues the DOTS should be stronger than they were last season.
5. Her Majesty's Dragons - Seems a bit low for the Dragons so I may get some hate mail here but they can easily hop up to the top spot in short order and expect they'll rise after my little bulletin board material here.
6. Charlestown Chiefs - The Chiefs have been in the thick of things for a very long time and this season will be no different. A conference title game loss last season will have this team geared up and ready to represent the west in the title game.
7. Full Perky Tets - Tets got knocked out of round one and have yet to make a title game. You get the impression the tools are there (speaking of tools - what about the owner). The Tets will push each team and should move up in the rankings as the season runs its course.
8. Twin Peaks - Peaks had one of the better runs in playoff history beating three higher seeds before losing in the title game. We'll see if it was a magical run or the Peaks are just one of the better teams in the west. I'm half full and empty here as they didn't set the regular season on fire last season so we'll have to see how the early season goes for them before they get bumped up here (or down).

Just Missing
9. The Dirty Birds - really liked what they showed against BM in the playoffs last season even though they lost in OT. The team will need to keep that consistency up early in the season. They do have a six game regular win streak coming into the season.
10. The Barbarians - like what we have in place this season as we are better than last season and we'll see if its enough to overcome some of the elite teams. Finished as the 4th seed last season and will be shooting to do better.

One of the more irritating things when writing up for a league is the whines and cries from certain people. Now, everyone is starting off on a clean slate with me this season (in this thread) but as I said in the opening post of the thread "you mess with the bull you get the horns." The "horns" will come by way of my predictions, your team name, your name, and on and on - or me just stop doing them as I get nothing but a few butt pats for spending time to do them. Make note that this is your notice so irk me and see what happens. Post what you want in other threads but keep this on task about the games. Hell, I challenge you to break my little rule as I don't like doing these to be perfectly honest but without them the league sucks.

May very well be a dominating week 1 for the West but I'm betting on East for the title again.
