MEAT's entirely subjective and biased Top Ten Volume II
A couple more games in the boxes and now with the tourney getting underway and ranked scrims becoming more prevalent, the rankings are starting to take hold more. A little movement in the past two games, but the top remains the same.....
1. Heartbreak Ridge Recons 4-0 (12-0) LW #1 This team continues to pile up the wins and have yet to be seriously challenged. Sorry Dusty, but you are going to have to lose a game or two to fall "below the radar", and this team is going to have a tough time doing that. They do have a tough tourney game coming up and they'll see the Legion and Cincinatti over the next few games so they'll be tested.
Best Win: 38-31 over Alabama Crimson Tide
Key loss: They haven't tasted one of those yet.....
2. Cincinatti Thundercats 4-0 (11-2) LW #5 The big jumpers this week are Cincy. They had an impressive win over Iron Mountain and followed that up with two more strong wins against good teams. These guys really look solid right now and I cannot wait to see the game between this team and the Recons.
Best win: 52-10 Iron Mountain
Key Loss: 38-34 Montenegro Meat
3. Gridiron Outlaws 4-0 (8-1) LW #3 Two more solid wins in the last two games against teams that should make the playoffs. The Outlaws continue to build a strong resume for the top spot.
Best win: 21-14 over Parris Island Devil Dogs
Key Loss: 17-10 againt the Cincinatti Thundercats
4. Parris Island Devil Dogs 4-0 (9-3) LW #6 In the tight race near the top of the rankings, these guys continue to put up good numbers. The two wins this week were Ho-hum by an average of 182 points. Their next two regular season games and their tourney game are all against top ten ranked teams so they should really know where they stand in a few days.
Best win: 28-21 Montenegro Meat
Key Loss: 14-21 Gridiron Outlaws
5. Montenegro Meat 4-0 (8-1) LW #4 The Meat continue to win with a balance doffense and stifling defense. The next couple of regular season games should be tougher for them and their tourney game against Granwinsnell is an absolute toss-up. They keep winning to stay in the picture though.
Best Win: 38-34 Cincinatti Thundercats
Key loss: 28-21 to the Parris Island Devil Dogs
6. The Texas Taus of the BOLN 4-0 (12-5) LW #8 Taus continues to play good opponants and put up good numbers. Big wins over Newcastle and Xenia this week keep them trending up with a loss to TVV in a non-ranked scrim just to keep them on an even keel. This team has pretty much established their quality, and they have a chanced to boost that with a couple more big scirmmages this week.
Best win: Bremerhaven Orkan (twice 27-6 and 27-10, both ranked scrims)
Key loss: San Diego Samurai 48-42
7. Iron Mountain Mustangs 3-1 (7-1) LW #2 The Cincinatti game did not go quite as planned for the Mustangs, but it's going to be tough in th Beasty East and a loss will not necessarily rule them out. Expect them to hang around.
Best win: 31-3 over Newcastle Top Guns
Key Loss: 52-10 Cincinatti Thundercats
8. The Legion's Chocolate Blaze 3-1 (7-2) LW #10 The Blaze recovered nicely from their season-opening loss and have pushed their record into the top half of a crowded Eastern conference race. A ranked scrim loss to a tough Muskrat team keeps them level. The Blaze really have a big week to prove themselves ahead as they play three top ten ranked teams and a fourth knocking on the door. Time for these guys to make a statement.
Best win: Newcastle Top Guns 17-6
Key loss: 52-28 Montenegro Meat
9. Columbus Dots 3-1 (5-9) LW #9 The brutal east is going to be tough for this team to make big waves in until that chemistry is maxed. The did give HRR a good game but ultimately lost. A blowout of the Niners validate that they are a solid team. Going to be tough to hold on to that top ten spot this next week with yet another tough slate of games on the schedule. Or it could be an opportunity to really establish their spot in the top ten.
Best Win: 31-10 Steel Belted Marshmallows
Key Loss: 45-13 Montenegro Meat
10. Newcastle Top Guns 3-1 (3-6) LW UR There's really going to be a good race for homefield in the Western conference this season and this team is right there at the top of the heap for that #4 slot right now. They had a mixed week in getting shut out by Taus but winning big agaisnt Pitt. Their next two games are huge in determining home field pecking order and whether they will remain as a top ten ranked team
Best win: Pittsburgh Punishers 90-0
Key loss: The Texas Taus of the BOLN 48-0
On the Brink:
ND Go Bison 3-1 (3-5)
Tuba Samurai 3-1 (5-3)
Best team no one has heard of yet:
Atlantis Rising 2-2 (9-13)
