Do this.

Issue is that Bort wrote his own forum and not using an open-source solution. If he was this could be done...well this second with a few clicks.

I +1 this but will take quite a bit of development time since this forum is all custom.

Why does it have to be an alert or pm?

Why no just a tab on home page like "friends tab"... you click an "add thread to favorites" button and the thread goes into this tab. Once in tab the "new post" light is on/off depending on whether there are new posts or not. Also an option underneath threads to remove from the tab.

Basically a mini personal pf/tab of threads you are following that you can add/remove to. Maybe set a max limit of 10 threads you can follow at a time or something like that if it causes a server strain or something like that.

The idea is to keep search time down to help servers. A small alert right after a reply to a thread you select to watch is much easier on the server load then making a special area for it.

Just to help out with any confusion anyone still has. You only get an alert after you post. So if you post knce in a thread you watch you will only recieve on alert until you post in that thread again.

Wait... you only get an alert after you post... so basically we will be using the alert area to keep track of which threads we are watching? Or are you saying, you post in a selected watch thread and the very next time someone posts in the thread it alerts you and not again until you post again.

Admittedly I dont know much about sever strain, but I dont see how having would cause more server strain, but if it does then whatever keeps the site from lagging...

I Home I Retired Players I Trophies I Friends I Top Plays I Thread Watch

Click on TW for list of links to threads you are watching and then navigate to threads you want to check up on from there. It doesnt have to be forum-like as I suggested earlier. Could also have a "Watch" button in the thread like this...

I Quote I Link I Report I Watch I

Clicking watch would put that link in your watch list so that you may return at that point in the thread.

I just see the alert thing being really annoying when you are posting a bunch in a thread that you are also watching.

Yeah, I think keeping this seperate from regular alerts is a good thing. Also, having options would be very nice.

From a technical/development standpoint.....why do you think it is "easier" on the server load? Serious, please explain.

Those of us who do a lot of recruiting get tons and tons of regular alerts. If I started receiving alerts every time someone replied in a thread that I had posted in, I'd quickly ragequit, lol.

Think about it, though...how many times on facebook do you comment on someone's status and then hate your life as you get alert after alert after alert of people posting after you? This could easily turn into that if it isn't implemented correctly.

If you are not a programmer I would recommend not saying things that you don't know. State things you want but do not add reasons/explanations that are beyond your knowledge.

Why? Because it hurts your reasons. Leave just what you want and why..but not how.

+10. This would make things much easier, particularly with privates and such that have many subforums.

Well I remember the excuse for the thread search being taken away was because of server lag, but I don't know if that is the actual case.

Searching is MUCH MUCH MUCH different than an alert.
