I get too many alerts as it is. BUT, if you could pick and choose which threads you wanted to get alerts from i would be ok with it
so i guess its a +.5 for me

Why does it have to be an alert or pm?
Why no just a tab on home page like "friends tab"... you click an "add thread to favorites" button and the thread goes into this tab. Once in tab the "new post" light is on/off depending on whether there are new posts or not. Also an option underneath threads to remove from the tab.
Basically a mini personal pf/tab of threads you are following that you can add/remove to. Maybe set a max limit of 10 threads you can follow at a time or something like that if it causes a server strain or something like that.

I won't vote cause I don't hate it but it is just something else to have to click to get to stop flashing, lol. Looks like it has the support to pass though.

The idea is to keep search time down to help servers. A small alert right after a reply to a thread you select to watch is much easier on the server load then making a special area for it.
Just to help out with any confusion anyone still has. You only get an alert after you post. So if you post knce in a thread you watch you will only recieve on alert until you post in that thread again.

Also thanks for the vote fors. This would be so much easier then searching for threads you post in. And being able to find threads you start.(which you cant do right now using the search function)
