Who cares if it inflates attributes, that's what Defense General VA does anyway. If a team is limited on the amount of players that can be Team Captains to 1 on offense, 1 on defense, and 1 on special teams, then teams will not be able to have 2 Centers as Team Captains. So that takes care of that problem.

The way its currently worded I feel like this will just end up being another gimmick that teams will begin taking advantage of.

If both captains from each team are on the field, its a wash and basically does nothing but inflate everyone's attributes on both sides.

It could penalize teams for having two captains on the same side of the ball, so it really just complicates and adds another nuance the game.

VA resets are important for competitive teams that bring in new players via recruiting so that they can get the new dot in coordination with the team's strategy already in place. So if a new dot has "team captain" and some other crappy va, the team is going to take a serious second look at bringing him in. Is it worth sacrificing the va reset to dump team captain and just deal with the crappy va? or are you stuck trying to figure out what to do with your team captain situation now and lose the crappy va?

Most positions already have an "x" number of VA's they "have" to have to be good. So the few positions that are allowed more creativity will be the ones that have this va dumped on them.

I could see teams neglecting special team captains and just going with something screwy like both starter and backup centers having team captain, so that the offense is guaranteed a bonus on every play. Are centers typically team captains? No. But do you really want your starting QB or HB or WR even sacrificing 15 VA's for a moral boost and vision % to everyone? Not when the Center could do it! And don't forget, how many plays would that one hb or wr have on the field? What if its a 3 back or 4 back system? You'd be stupid to make one a team captain, because he'd only see a handful of plays. So it naturally gravitates to a lineman or te or fb even. Not exactly your typical "team captain."

Its not that team captains are a bad idea, but in its current form it'd be more of a headache for team owners and coordinators than it would be a "fun" addition for agents. More or less, just another hurdle for teams to jump to have their perfect system in place. It should be looked at and tweaked a lot from its current state imo.

Again, what's the big deal. It's not like the player chosen as Team Captain is getting any kind of bonus that applies only to the owners player. All players on offense, defense, or special teams would benefit. As long as Team Captain is not added as a SA or VA & the owners have the option to choose 3 players as Team Captains, along with the option to remove inactive players as Team Captains then this idea could work.

Not all, but some agents/players actually have a case when they demand to be a starter, especially when it's obvious that their player has a better overall build. If any players on a team belong to an owner, coach, coordinator, recruiter or GM, then you can expect their players will be the starters. Nearly 90% of teams on GLB operate that way & there are very few that will start the best players and assign their own as backups. Even when their players don't have good builds, they will still start their own players. This game has been that way as long as I can remember and I don't see it changing anytime soon, or ever for that matter. Since that is the way it is, teams will deal with the selection of Team Captains the same way they deal with which players start and don't start. It wouldn't be as much of a hassle as you think.Originally posted by alindyl
How will teams handle things when you have every player you try to recruit saying they have to be the captain? You already have people demanding to be the starter, when many teams don't even use a real starter/backup system and the depth order is irrelevant from split time.

It just seems like one of these idea's that sounds nice and it's realistic, but the actual implementation will cause more hassles than it's worth.

I'd have to -1 this. Nice thought, interesting idea but i see this causing problems. In a game where everything wants to be the superstar, it will be hard to limit a team to 2 per 55 player roster and keep everyone happy.

There is no SA. It would only be a prereq to a VA.

I dont like the SA,

I think a VA/ Or a natural Boost (Like that VA thing that pumps up players when the Captain makes a play for a loss or a 3rd down stop/conversion) Something like a small energy boost for all players on the converting side and a small morale loss for the misfortunate dots.

We dont need more SAs to choose from (Especially 1 that wont be very effective until 30+)

How about making it a an SA option when you create your player.
That if a person is no longer a captain he can change that SA.
Also, instead of making it only benefecial to a single player make it a team bonus.
The higher the SA the more likely the bonus is triggered.

Just saying...

No. Nice idea, but no imo.

It'd end up being a super-powered SA, but that's cheaper (using VP's).

It will either be way overpowered for owners smart enough to have it being triggered almost every play, or underpowered for all except those that have it triggered almost every play.

Put it on a kicker and you have every ST play if you put him on all STs (easy).

Put it on a 1 QB system and you have every offensive play.

Put it on a defender with the back-up on heavy ST's and the starter on none (2 man rotation) and you have 70% of defensive plays.

No strategy involved. Just a fluff OP'ed (or underpowered VA) to further the difference between owners that are and aren't good at planning to have it active.

Only problem with this captain idea is that most captains will be your best friends or those who politic the most. In rare instances will the proper captain be selected. Or you'll just nominate yourselves for the added skills.

yeah ...id also agree w/ this on this one ... screw politics.. my votes still no... i think the only way this could really work out well is w/ a franchise player (either been w/ the team 3+ seasons...or on a contract thats 3+seasons)

I like the idea of adding Captains. I'm not sure there should be an in-game effect, though. Maybe it adds to the player's Fame, and stays in his game log as a record that he was captain for a season.

I wish there were coding in place that recognized the phrase "Team Captains" and prevented any thread from being posted in "Suggestions" that contained that wording. The idea has been batted around since nearly day one of the site, nearly all of the ideas for implementing it involve either some bullshit bonus to the build and/or some aspect of voting/owner-choosing which dot gets it. Enough! If you want "Team Captains", get together in your team forums and pick your own, but leave the coding of the game out of it!

Have one Offensive Captain, one Defensive Captain, and one ST Captain. That would help prevent multiple Captains on one side of the ball
