♦♦♦Team Captains♦♦♦
General Idea
In most team sports, including American football, a team will choose one or more team captains to be the leaders of their respective teams. In football, a coach will usually assign around three captains. In GLB, we only have dots--with no personalities--to choose from, so we don't have "real captains" to choose from. However, one way in which we, as agents, can personalize our players' builds is through the use of veteran abilities (VAs). If we could have a "Team Captain" VA to put points into, that would make the game more realistic and allow a team owner to reward loyalty or skill.
How would this be implemented?
This could be implemented into GLB by following these guidelines:
• Create a VA titled "Team Captain". This VA would have only one requirement: Be named a captain on the player's current team. (Full description below)
• Each team owner would have the ability to name three captains per team. They could be on offense, defense, or special teams.
• Each team captain would have on an * or a small letter c next to their name to denote captaincy.
• If there was more than one "Team Captain" on the field at the same time, only the player with the higher fame would activate the bonus.
• This bonus provided by the VA would be similar in effect to the SA Field General or the SA Line General, except that it would affect every player on the team.
The Veteran Ability: Team Captain
This skill gives the entire team (on the field) a small morale and vision boost before each play that this player is on the field. Limit one Team Captain per play. If more than one Team Captain is on the field, the player with the highest fame will apply the bonus.
Prerequisites: Team Captain on current team.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Won't this make recruiting that much more difficult?
A: Maybe, but doubtful. Each team could only have up to three team captains, and while you would get some recognition for being a captain, the agent would need to be a team player so that they would be willing to use up VA points to help the entire team. Someone who is interested in only stats will be less interested in being a team captain.
Q: Does this mean that any player under level 25 cannot be a team captain?
A: No. You could be named a level 1 team captain (peewee team?); however, you could not make use of the VA (which isn't available until level 25) at that point.
Q: What happens if a player puts VA points into Team Captain one season with one team, and then, in the next season, joins a team that already has three team captains?
A: That's what the VA re-set is for. The VA won't work if you aren't a team captain on your current team.
Add-On Suggestions to this thread
NorsemanVike - This is actually a good idea, but it should be limited to the team marking that player as a captain, then the VA option is made available. If that player leaves during the season, the VA points are returned for redistribution into other VAs.
