I'll start by saying, yes i know I'm very new to this game only joining this game a week or two ago. But ive been very active reading posts and trying to learn the game before the start of this season and i think i have a pretty good idea. But i was thinking about my advanced tactics and asked what makes an FS, an FS?

Well i've always been taught (Approx. 6 years of tackle football experiance(I'm 14)) that Free Safeties are supposed to be the last line of defense and not matter what, they need to be there to stop a long touchdown run or pass.

The free safety isn't really free. He has to roam waay back and stay there most of the time, just in case somebody (or a group of somebodies) really screw things up in the front there.

So based on this info the way i see it the most logical Advanced tactics that we're offered are this(Excluding ball carrying):

-Tackling Style: Wrap-Up! there is no reason to be trying for a fumble if it's you and a running back one on one. If you want to be known as the forced fumble king of safeties, try playing SS since they are generally bigger or stronger( in the case of real life safeties)

-Defensive Focus: This will probably depend on if you've scouted the other team or your preference but the most logical option to me would be to play pass and get fooled by the run. The reason being that if you play pass and drop back the play is always in front of you in the case of a run, or youll have an extra step if some punk receiver tries to beat you deep. Whereas if your focusing run play-action will get you beat 9/10. So my choice here would be to play pass or play balanced.

-Man Coverage: Obviously based on my last paragraph the choice here for me would seemingly be to play 5 yards back. But for my i like to play medium seeing at im already set to watch for the pass theres little chance to get beat deep.

-Coverage style: Again since im already reading the pass i like to put it at medium. But seeing as it's human nature to be noticed i can see why someone would want to got for Picks.

If you disagree with any of my ideals or your FS is efficient without using any of these strategies please dont present it in a flaming manner, cause 'member ima n00b who don't know better =P

Here is my Player BTW!

IMO FS's shouls set the int setting to "go for int if you have help over the top". Also if your FS's tackling is above 30 and has decent strength (25) then you probably can set him to force fumbles if not then wrap-up. Everything else I agree with. BTW I don't play FS, only SS.

In the GLB world, if FS want stats then they play close and INT freq, but in the old school line of thought, your settings are right on.

If your FS is getting stats, he isn't doing his job. A FS's job is to take away the deep ball and provide support when thats not the issue.

I think it means that your front seven isn't doing their job as you have to clean up their missed tackles and broken coverages.

I wish we got the sticky hands SA.

Alternative: It also can mean that your FS is just too fast and great, who gets to the ball and makes a tackle before the CB can blink...

My favorite stat as a FS in this game is W-L record.

I'd gladly take 20 tkls, 1 pick and 14-2 over 120 tkls, 8 picks and 2-14 every time...

Always be on wrap up thats a no brainer but after that I'll mix it up staying close is better because medium makes you play to far off in my opinion and I like to be agressive if you have good jumping it will work but medium is also pretty good

This post was worded very badly, I meant to say if your FS is getting a lot of stats then the other players on defense aren't doing there job. Poor choice of words on my part.

If you have tackling and strength above 30 you don't need to be on wrap up.

I had 0 tackles last game and I'm quite happy with it... 62 snaps and they didn't come near me!!! that's the mark of a good FS.. you DON'T want stats on your FS that means someone somewhere else is messing up...

Actually the assertions of SS/FS being good if they don't get plays when on the field, speaks of complacency. Even if your defensive line and LBs are good, the SS/FS can still get PDs and blitz the line of scrimmage, getting fumbles and tackles for loss etc.

Safeties need to be assertive, if your safeties got zero stats after a game, if may not necessary mean he did good, maybe he just stood around the whole game. It's kinda ridiculous to believe that if a safety gets hella INT/PD = front 7 + secondary is terrible.
