Multi-dimensional cap system (DISTORTING TIME AND SPACE BITCHES)
Each player, in addition to having a level, is given a "Class" that ranges from A (All level 1s, and consequentially the only players suitable for Pee-Wee) to Z, based on a many-factored assessment of that player's development. Classes A through S are essentially meant to be assigned to players that fall under qualification for the 38-and-under cap leagues. So that's 20 different possible Classes a player can progress through their journey to level 38, and each level-capped league (14, 18, 21) can be given a Class cap to go along with it (so like E, H, and J respectively).

Once they exceed level 38 S Class-capped leagues (likely when they sign to the 38-capped team and do their boosts), they become T-class, the Class indicative of players above level 38 who are, for a lack of a better term, "the worst players in uncapped leagues". The 7 remaining Classes of T through Z are devoted to labeling players of different "skill levels" in uncapped leagues, but now certain uncapped leagues like AA, AAA, and Pro would have caps on what Classes of players THEY could recruit. This is all very flexible so if Bort wanted to add higher caps he could just cap them at an "available" class letter World League would be capped at Z, as would Pro, but perhaps AAA would be capped at Y, and AA would be capped at X (and you could continue down into a more extended pyramid if you want to). Someone commented that WL and Pro aren't enough leagues to fit Z class players into - so yeah either Z Class is "very hard to achieve", or simply let AAA be capped at Z class. Either way.

Factors determining player class include but are not limited to:
#1-Total SP in build + Held + Available Points from Basic Equipment
#2-Sum of base attributes & SAs + Held + Available Points from Basic Equipment
#3-#1 minus #2
#3b-#1 divided by #2?
#4-Player Age
#5-# of boosts available
#6-Veteran Points
#7-think of more tbh

Class will be visible to all along with level, and the exact formula for it will not be given out. It's just something the users will have to fucking deal with because the whole point of this is to not allow people to game the system, to make conferences "16 teams deep", and to maybe offer a hand to recruiting in the current uncapped mess. Just finding eligible players can be quite a task because of how many levels the uncapped leagues span.

Obvious problem is obvious: narrowing down a formula. But:

I have been considering trying to get a formula worked out even if just for informational purposes, anyway. The problems relate to value of VA's and stored SP's.

He's already considering working out a formula for tying in total SP in build to level & league structure. This is only 2305273x more complicated

btw this entire idea is in response to:

If caps were not done by level, but by total build SP value, SSB wouldn't be quite so advantageous. It would also be more confusing.

Above Bort quotes & random tangential discussion about this kind of stuff can be found in http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=3343453

I can't wrap my head around that formula atm... but this seems like a VERY VERY VERY legit way to do things

This would be like making lol bars more relevant. I am all for this.

Plus it gives an aspect of accomplishment, as well as a very good recruiting tool.

The CONCEPT would be something like this:
(pulling numbers out of my ass) players get an "initial score" of 3. Everything I listed in the OP is a + or - modifier to that score. Scores can be modified to as high as 5 or as low as 1 based on the factors listed in the OP. That resulting number is then used as a multiplier to the player's level to give them a "true score", and whatever that score happens to be will determine their class.

so you'd have some kind of sheet with the ranges of true scores for each class, so if class Z is considered "very very good level 56+ players", and "very very good" itself means an "initial score" higher than 3 but less than 5 (let's say 4.75), Z class players are players with true scores of 4.75*56=266, that is the minimum cutoff for a Z class player. So with that initial score scale only possibly getting up to 5, the LOWEST POSSIBLE LEVEL someone could achieve Z class would be level 266/5=53.2 rounded to 54.

Which seems pretty accurate... extremely well built level 54s are definitely usable in both Pro and World League. Just figure out what final scores represent what letters of teh alphabet and then start working on a formula for modifiers to the initial score based on a bunch of factors.

So what would happen when you start a team with all your internet buddies and then class-up at different rates due to factors such as a position dependent # of major/minor attributes? Also - #4-Player Age, #5-# of boosts available - why are these necessary - Can you regress down classes with age if you fuck the build up and hence have to leave a capped team? How about "deliberately" "fucking up" a build to dominate lower league teams who are going through the standard build procedures? You might think this formula is complicated, but it only appears to be because it is so mangled. This seems unworkable, and a train crash waiting to happen. I sincerely hope Bort is further down the line than this in his thought process.

If this really is "epic", at least use the player builder to start clarifying a few quantitative restrictions on the formula.
