I have noticed with 2nd generation of players I am building that I am rolling better pieces around levels 15-22 than my level 50+ guys are rolling.

Hell, I even retired my lvl 48 CB because I wasted over a season and a half shopping, and got nothing except for the occaisonal +3 Stamina / Blitz SA.

Has any else noticed this?

It's totally random. I've been getting everything I wanted for RBs while rolling with Gs and vice versa. It's supposed to be better as you go up in level though.

I've gotten better pieces with my lower level guys too. Rolled a TV piece for my DE when he was level 13 and got a shed block on him too just a while back. FS got super vision at level 13 in like 2 rolls too.

My guess is that the pool of randomness is much bigger the higher you get though - where every possible combination for a given position in the game is available (meaning more useless combinations than at lower levels).

Where a DE may only be exposed to a useless +2% Fake Chance or a 2% Hold Block Chance at lower levels - now he's also exposed to +3% and +5% of those same useless modifiers as well at higher levels.

This. I have a forum for AEQ research but it's really time consuming and if Bort makes changes (like he did by adding Defense General), the stats get messed up.

I think it seems worse at higher levels since you already have the direction of your build decided. For example if you built a hard hitting SS, you might be stoked to get a +2 attribute +5% force fumble.

On the other hand, if you've focused your SA's & VA on coverage skills...the force fumble bonus is nearly worthless.

It is possible, although I somewhat doubt it, that the equipment rolls are partially determined by your attributes.

For example, if you have high throwing, you get more QB-style pieces; high Str, more C-style pieces etc.

Around lvls 20-30, with a few attributes being pushed to the extreme in the typical SB way, then you have more chance of hitting something associated with them as your minor attributes are still very low.

Once you hit level 50, and your minor attributes are up around 60 with the majors 70-90 raw, then the fact that your build is balancing out means that you get a few more "useless" pieces thrown at you.

Just a hunch on the non-random aspect as to how the pieces are assigned (does a player with 8 Throwing ever receive QB pieces?), that could explain why the apparent sweet time to shop is around lvl 30 and not lvl 60. There is no way I'd believe this though until a decent analysis had been done on which pieces turn up for players with contrasting builds.

I've had a few theories

Better stuff more likely - Everything is available at first, just the %s slowly move off the shitty stuff and toward the good stuff as you level up

More stuff becomes available - As you level up, more and more is unlocked.

Combine those two theories at will...

Based on your build - Basically replace "level up" with "as your bars go up" in the above theories

My personal opinion, though only partially grounded in evidence is...

As you level up, more and more stuff becomes available. You start with ALL of the out of position SAs, and as you level up slowly 2% turns into 3% into 5%, +1 into +2 into +3, and more and more SAs become available along your tree. My theory extends to say that things don't become more LIKELY, simply become POSSIBLE. So as you unlock more and more, you'll still get all the junk, but some of the good stuff is possible, too.

My evidence/opinions stem from

1) This is much, much easier to code than shifting %s away from low and toward high. It simply allows Bort to add to your item list, and randomly draw from them with a few restrictions like no two SAs together, etc.
2) When you start out, you get out of position SAs like crazy, but then start seeing them less and less. This is evidence of the group of items possible growing, not the items themselves becoming less likely relative to others.
3) Building my o-line, I'll find basically only run block / pass block / get low early on. Then cut block, shock block start to show up, then finally protect and pancake etc.

What my theory lends itself to is

1) wait until you are level 30+ (this is when I start to see the last SAs and +3s)
2) if you want an out of position piece, FIND IT EARLY. Chances are, it will come with nothing attached. But that could be better than waiting 2 seasons to get it down the road when your rolls will be stuffed with crap you don't care about.

For example, rolling for my FB at level 7 I got first step, first step, route run, dive for yards, return specialist ALL THE TIME but never anything in the tree. They were basically all blank, sometimes +1, and I said what the hell I'll pick up two first step.
