yeah that is my thoughts exactly.

Its like private businesses, there are no rules against who they can and can't hire, who can come in, what they can say.
Stores have signs saying "No shoes, no shirt no service". Who the hell are they to tell me what I have to wear? They're the owners of the store, thats who. They make and enforce the rules, so there's no reason why I shouldn't be able to do the same in my forum.

They tell owners of businesses all the time what they can and can't do. For instance alot of places no longer allow smoking in restaurants. Or when they have health inspectors come in and tell you how and when to clean your eq. I know these examples are a little different but what I am saying is businesses are told all the time what to do.

I just get nauseated every time I think of any form of censorship and lets face it we have plenty right here on these boards.

Pet pea of mine is they should ban people for misquoting intentionally. The whole FYP thing is rediculous. I got in an argument a few days back with an owner in the suggestions forum and most of the way through he just kept changing my posts to be insulting. Can you imagine that guy having he power to edit your original thread? Link is below. Oh and I know I threw a few insults of my own before you say it.

sure, cities tell restaraunts they can't smoke because its a city bylaw, but if I owned a restaraunt and didn't want to hire mexicans, its damn well within my rights to do that. (not what I believe, i'm just using that as an example) Second hand smoke kills people, which is why its a law in some places, working with or without mexican people doesn't. Some places have an equal rights policy, but laws cant force PRIVATE businesses to hire someone because of their ethnicity or gender. As long as they follow bylaws (ie. no smoking) they can do whatever they want. Things that affect the safety of customers will be enforced by inspectors. Policies will not.

Last I checked, an owner editing a bad post in a forum doesn't violate anybody's rights or health and safety. Sure, you have right of free speech, but when you post on an internet forum, whatever you write no longer belongs to you, its free for anybody to access.

AHHHH but here in lies the debate. You are setting a double standard for the restaurant owner. If you believe we should limit his right to have a smoking establishment. The choice would be for you (and me I hate smoke) to not do business there but instead you and I say it is ok to take away his right to a smoking establishment in favor of our choice top patronise his restaurant. In all honesty if you chose not to hire hispanics because they are hispanic you too can be sued for discriminatory hiring practices. Just like you can't ask me if I am union or not during an interview.

I side with you by the way on hiring and smoking and just choose to use these as examples. If you are for censorship but against allowing smoking then that would make you a hypochrite (fun intended not an insult).

With the new edited by feature this is a fine idea, there is already censorship available by being able to completely delete a thread...this just allows censorship without having to censor everyone that ever posted in that thread.

hardly. Smoking is a health hazard, censorship is not. Don't get me wrong, I'm not for censorship, I just want control over my forum at times.

The issue about smoking in restaraunts, is people have the right to be there, without being at risk of developing a smoke-related illness. Its a standard of living, just like how you can't have celiengs that will fall on you, no fire alarms, etc.... These are standards all businesses must comply to if they want to remain open, mandated by the government (or city by-laws).

As for you suing, you can sue public companies for discriminatory hiring practices, and you can sue unions/companies with a policy saying they hire different ethnicities/gender/degree of handicappedness. You can not (at least where I'm from) sue a privately owned company, bar, restaraunt on who they choose not to hire.

Back to the discussion, if you have problems with an owner abusing his mod powers and being a dink, perhaps thats just not a good team to be on. Its like saying Owners shouldn't have control over the depth chart, because they can make you not play.
