Purpose
To determine the effect of team chemistry when one team is at a significant disadvantage, i.e. 50/50/50 compared the opposition's 100/100/100

Matrix
Running the exact same teams, with the same energy settings, with the same game plan for two bench mark tests with each team's chemistry set to 100/100/100, then run two more games by only modifying one team's chemistry from 100/100/100 to 50/50/50.

Test Results: As viewed by the team with the reduced chemistry. * All numbers are based on a two game average.
1) Score differential went from 5 points to 18.5 points.
2) QB hurries and sacks went from 11.5/2.5 to 11/7 while the opposition's when from 10/3.5 to 7/.5.
3) QB completion percentage dropped from 50.5% to 45.6% while the opposition's went up from 44.5% to 47.5%.
4) Yards per carry dropped from 1.47 to -.2 while the oppositions went up from .7 to 3.5.
5) Pancake blocks dropped from 11.5 to 2.5 while the opposition's went up from 8.5 to 21.
6) Missed tackles dropped virtually equally for both teams.
7) Yards per catch dropped from 5.5 to 3.9 whie the opposition's went up from 4.6 to 7.1.

Review
The effectiveness would appear to affect the offensive and defensive linemen the most. Although in #2, the # of hurries did not drop, it actually went up since some of the the hurries from the benchmark test were converted into sacks in the second set of test games, essentially going from 14 incidents to 18 while the oppositions went from 13.5 incidents to 7.5. #4 continues to show this trend as the offensive line combined with the reduction effectiveness of the RBs, actually went into the negative while the opposition's production more than tripled. Most noticeably, the pancakes noted #5 had a large effect in the running capability. The # of incidents on the QB were also corresponded to the WR's effectiveness in yards per catch. In conclusion, I believe that team chemistry has a larger affect in a team's performance than most people realize.

First of all, thank you for posting and putting this effort in. Second this would confirm my thought process that chemistry indeed makes a major impact as my team found out this season. This should make team think twice about giving up those chem points for a better player and etc.

Very nice, just goes to prove what alot of us had suspected for some time....
Chemistry actually DOES make a difference in games, some games between two very closely matched teams, can be decided by who has the 100/100/100 chemistry and who doesn't.

nice work Norseman!

Any hope of you running more trials of this? My only concern is that we are only comparing 2 games in each situation. Something like 10 games each situation would smooth out some of the weirdness and would help converge on the true answer.

Is there a way to do something similar for in game morale? Maybe change each players confidence from 60 to 10 and compare game results as well as the post game morale report?

Would be nice to see some results with something more realistic than 50/50/50... 50/80/70 30/60/70, etc..

70/85/85 seems to be fairly common.

I have 12+ years experience with testing, but I don't do it anymore. So at least I'm putting the experience to use again.

I've thought about that and I'll see what I can do.

I'll try to run some more as a follow up to verify.
