OK, I saw somethings I never saw before today. I'm a first year DC, so I thought maybe one of you could help me. This actually refers to another teams defense.

First of all, I saw them bring their FS up to double cover the outside receiver when the offense was in a three receiver set. How the heck do you do that?

Next, they were loading their SS into the box on certain plays. I thought at first it was a goalline, but it definately was not. Maybe it was cover 1, or cover 0. I'm not certain either way, and would love to get an answer here.

This is a Cover 1, Zone Under scheme:

The SS is near the line but drops back. Cover 1 is great to jump on the TE early with the SS and LOLB. Either one, at this point, can blitz, too.

How you can stop a team who use 80% of the game strong i off tackle? What is the formation to stop that for sure?

If you scout a team that runs from strong I 90% of the time, play goal-line against it...yes, you'll likely give up a 1-2 big pass plays, but its hard to run against 9 in the box.

There are better ways to do that without being screwed if they decide to switch it up on you. My best advice is to find ways to force 8 men into the box against that formation...good way to do this is some variation of a Cover 1 SS blitz with a run focus and strong side shift that will send 8 men up closer to the line of scrimmage. This is a good way to counter the offense without sacrificing big plays in the passing game. You'll still have to have some good defensive players to stop them but this at least gives you a chance.

Looks like you were running the DE contain play. Each DE has a zone and as soon as someone passes through his zone he picks him up.

A SS Blitz will often give up huge plays to the TE.
Blitzing the FS our of Cover 1 is a little safer.

For those running a 3-1-7, a strong RB will run over the CBs for big gains.

Not if you know how to run a defense and have good LBs a SS blitz won't give up big plays to the TE...just gotta know how to design the plays.

I have a question. What if any penalty is there if you play a FS in the SS slot or in the C spot?

FS at SS is like 5% penalty, I think.

A FS at C? Um...wat?
