If the books are followed then it is a given. Not gonna say why due to spoilers.

I took that as the books are still very much ahead of parts of the tv show.

The show is MOSTLY ahead of the books, but not on all counts.

Except, pretty much on all counts.

Dany and Jon aren't together in the books, considering he is dead.

My thoughts - In the books, it seemed clear that Jon Snow was the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen. The series is named A Song of Ice and Fire. The Starks are ice and the Targaryens are fire so he is the main character of the story. Ice first since he grew up a Stark. This will be the story of Jon Snow and his ascension to the throne after he saves the kingdom from the white walkers. Jon seems to be the only one who truly understands the threat from the north. The common phrases in the book such as winter is coming and that which is dead may never die support this. Daenerys will probably be his queen as half sister as is Targaryen custom.

Or actually since it is "A Song" it would be more appropriate to be a memorial of the story of the sacrifice of Jon Snow to defeat the walkers. Then have Daenerys rule since Martin has so many strong female characters.

In the books Jon Snow is still dead. It was shocking, but in the same way it was shocking when Tyrion drowns and you are led to believe he died. Then half a book later you find out he survived. Snow's death felt similar.

Something like that.

Couldn't Ice be the White Walkers and Fire be the dragons?

The other question I had about your post is you thought there was significance to Ice being first. He was a Targaryen first before he was adopted by Ned to become a Stark.

His mother is Stark and he was brought up as the bastard son of Ned. Ned hid the fact he was Targaryen so he wouldn't be killed. He never even told his wife, even though it caused friction throughout their marriage. Ice first since he has always been a Stark to everyone.

No, I can't think of any story line other than those abandoned by tv. They already said they weren't introducing Prince Aegon Targaryen or Lady Stoneheart.
Which story?

Daenerys is Jon's Aunt.

The what is dead may never die saying is from the Ironborn, who have nothing to do with white walkers or targs.

Correct. It was on a page break for me so I thought they were under Rhaegar as his children, but they are brother and sister. Still both Targaryen so would be possible within their customs.

It is an Ironborn saying but has other examples such as Dondarrion in the story. The concept I doubt has exclusivity to the Ironborn.
