Well, you would know about receiving bans far better than I would. I don't see how a public forum ban would deter anybody from anything; it seems like a fairly anemic punishment. I imagine most people who get banned from this site do most of their interacting with others in GLB in private forums, or could if they wished.

I've only received 1 ban in my life so I'm not sure what you're talking about. But that should be beside the point.

I think if Azure Dreams had started this thread with his argument... then there wouldnt have been nearly as much debate and a lot more support.

However, having read the whole thread I found my opinion pushed further away from the OP's suggestion which I originally agreed with...

Jose Bagg constantly using the analogy that it is like banning someone based on their race is wholly wrong... The users concerned were banned for breaking the rules... not for their colour...

Weren't the rules written concerning forum use before private forums were introduced?

Bort and DD have the right to refuse service to anybody... but they aren't exercising this right, they are just limiting the capabilities of a few users that doesn't stop them from playing the game. Private forums are a luxury that aren't integral to the playing of the game. Being allowed to post in their own private forums is a luxury they have been allowed to retain, along with the basic needs fro managing a team and a player...

The bar analogy, if someone is banned from a bar permanent/3 months whatever, then if their friend rents out the whole place to throw a party, they can still be refused entry.

Anyway, basically I'm saying there is logic to the if they are out of public forums then they have contained from re-committing crimes... A punishment of removing the luxury of private forum posting is at the discretion of Bort and DD.

And the argument about business sense etc... had nothing to do with rights etc... you just said business plan and generally accepted pratice... They haven't banned the customer permanently from the game, nor removed their ability to play it normally, they have chosen to punish rule breaking. They haven't banned people for no reason...

You don't "own" the private forum--Goal Line Blitz does. Goal Line Blitz, in turn, gives you certain rights to, within reason, control what goes on within that forum. Goal Line Blitz has decided that they still have the right to limit who may and who may not post within your forum.

My suggestion is file an item dispute in PayPal, chances are there won't be a response and you will get your $$$ back.

Paying 25 FP for a forum I think constitutes "owning" it.

No it doesn't.

It is renting server space.

can't happen, because glb has a paypal also, and has a clause stating that there are no refunds, I tired that when they put out the forum tos and made everyone agree to it

That seems very disingenuous since you played the game for a while and (I think) were required to give understanding of the Ts & Cs at either joining the game or purchasing the points. To prey on their possible laxity of attention to PayPal disputes, well...just because someone leaves their door unlocked does not justify one from stealing from them.

People pay for usage rights all of the time without OWNING the underlying asset. Think storage unit within a larger storage facility. Sure, you're paying for the right to store stuff there, but the owner of the overall facility still has the legal right to control what you do with the unit and what you place in the unit.

Ethaan gets it....because "You're lucky the admins let you use the forums you pay for"? Seriously? People are banned from the forums and they should be thankful they're allowed to keep spending money?

Several permanent forum banned users can't even use the chat function; pray tell, what chat rule could they have broken when they were banned months before the chat was even implemented? Why not tell me where the public forum and the chat have intertwined "lose one, lose the other" rules? Or the public forum and private forum?

Come up with an argument that covers the realm beyond "administrative opinion" and "status quo" and maybe you'll have a debate. As it stands you collectively have nothing.

especially since they are legally viable for what is in there, hence the no porn rule being GLB wide, and stuff like that
