It would be nice if we could create multiple depth charts and give them saved names. Then on the Advanced AI screen have a pull down that would allow you to select one of your saved depth charts!!! I think this could be the best way and would allow you to have the exact personnel in for each output and not just for each formation.

Why can't we just have formation DCs (and new formations)?

Click on a formation and a set of positions pop up:

5-2: RDE, RDT, NT, LDT, LDE, MLB, LOLB, CB1, CB2, FS, SS
4-3: RDE, DT, NT, LDE, ROLB, MLB, LOLB, CB1, CB2, FS, SS
3-4: RDE, NT, LDE, ROLB, RILB, LILB, LOLB, CB1, CB2, FS, SS
2-5: DT, NT, ROLB, RILB, MLB, LILB, LOLB, CB1, CB2, FS, SS

I'm very much on board with the formation specific stuff. With all of the upgrades/changes that have come along to help the offenses in the game it would be nice to see there be something that actually helps the defenses perform better. Plus, this isn't even your usual "OMFG this thing is so strong nerf it now!!" thread. Its a "hey, Bort, we want to get more into the strategy aspect of the game" thread which to me enriches the game.

no. people would ruin the fuck out of this game with that. it would be like Bort adding the veer or the option to the playbook. that would cause way too many problems. A)offenses would be unstoppable, because you can hand it to the FB, for a 3-4 yard gain if the defense is playing like a nickel or quarter, or if they have the LBs stacked in the middle the QB can take off with the RB behind him, with an easy first down or TD. nearly unstoppable.

and when people do finally stop it the OCs will bitch and complain like none other.

any option/wildcat/hog or anything you wanna call it is a -1.

Glad I read through...this is exactly what I was going to type into a reply in the first page when I read the original idea. Why limit unique depth charts to the 3-4 and 4-3...I would likely want a different set of linebackers for a nickel or Dime package, as well as I'd likely want to sub out my run stuffing NT for a more agile pass rushing type in the obvious passing situations.

I agree, but the thing is, that may make the game to complex for the casual fan. Perhaps a setting like pass situation defense. For third and long, you select DE's and 3 linebackers in order of preference for example:

in passing situations I want my PRS(pass rush specialist) to be: Joe Smith and Bob Lee, I place them in those slots

The PLB's(Pass Linebackers) you place your LB's in order of preference. Like so

1. Eric Sanders
2. Tom Rodriguez
3. Paul Allen

Sanders comes in 1 LB packge(quarter) Rodriguez and Sanders in teh 425 and 335 features all 3

Do want.

1) Make the formations on the Depth Chart the same ones that are available in the Defensive AI.

2) Keep the basic depth chart for defense so that people who don't want to mess with specific formations can use that one. (Much like the Basic AI is still around even though we have the Advanced AI).

3) Sit back and watch the creative stuff that happens.
