Take a look at the picture indicated above. The circles are diffrent levels of catching. They signify the depth the wr is able to attempt to make a catch. When the ball is thrown in the general vacinity of the appropriate range for the wr, he takes a shot at catching the ball. If this is how it was created it would explain many problems wr's are having at dropping passes.

For example.

Lets say my Wr build is

Jumping 20
Speed 50
Agility 45
Catching 45
Vision 30

We can all see that if the ball is launched to the most outer ring the WR will attempt to make the play. This is where the other attributes come into play. If its a deep pass that is hard thrown, Speed will become obsolete, the player cant run faster than the ball. The player must make the jump for the play. Is his jumping high enough? If it isnt, the ball hits off his fingers, and becomes a drop. If his jumping is high enough that would become a catch.

Now lets say said receiver's qb threw the pass in a softer loftier setting. Now he has to adjust his speed to make the catch. With the pass being in the outer ring, does he have the speed to catch up? Or will it be a over throw? Once again, if the player doesnt have the speed, the ball is likely to just tap his fingers, resulting in once again a dropped pass. If he is fast enough, receiver is hit in stride and takes in in for 6.

If this is true, then catching becomes more of a precise attribute, that has to be controlled, rather than a speed and agility that can just be flooded.

Lets see the hate posts now.

Bort has posted before and I am too lazy to find it that the one stat that will help you catch is catching. The other stats in my opinion: speed, agility, vision, & jumping all aid the WR in getting to the ball to be able to catch it, which does not mean the WR will catch the ball. So thinking that flooding those other stats besides catching will make you drop less passes is a mistake in my opinion. With low catching you would have to make GOOD moves to get to the ball to be able to catch it. Too me it seems easier to get up catching to a good number than all the other stats to a high number.

i am beginning to think that the circles are actually more useful if renamed to Jumping instead of Catching.

I think this theory is flawed. The only way you can put "too much" into an attribute is by doing it so extensively that your other attributes fall behind. It's likely that's the root of most WR failures, if not the simple fact that they're on a run team, facing superior competition, or they aren't the best receiver on their team.
