Even a pawn can checkmate the king. Our admin beat DeLoss at his own game.

Really? From everything I have seen this is the cliff notes version of the past year:

Texas to implode Big XII, taking 3 schools with them to Pac-10!

Aggies say..mmmm...no thanks, we are taking our talents East.

Sips don't have a good 4th member to replace us since OU/OSU are tied at the hip, so suddenly it was all in good fun, let's keep the awesome Big XII! We PROMISE we will play nice and not treat everyone as second class. All for one!

A&M agrees to come back for a more equitable piece of the pie and some guarantees, thereby saving the conference temporarily.

Sip fans laugh at "pooooooooor Aggy, SEC didn't offer."

A few months later, DeLoss is talking with with ESPN, "Those ingrates will BEG to be on our network! We have them eating out of the palm of our hand!"

LHN announced, sips not only want 3rd tier rights, but anything else they can get their hands on, including high school programming that "totally won't be used as a recruiting tool, scout's honor."

Dollar Bill and President Bowtie are tired of the sips crap and realize they have no intent of doing anything other than bettering their own selves at the expense of the rest of the schools.

http://i.imgur.com/wYccC.jpg

They call Slive and say "you are right, they are who we thought they were, we're moving in"

Stories break and the sips don't care so much they hire a PR firm to start a smear campaign and to find ways to stop the deal. "Tortious Interference" enters the sports lexicon.

DeLoss sees this is only slowing the pace of negotiations, so he uses Ken Ley as a puppet, saying "you better use your connections and get out there and show why this is a horrible move for Texas or y'all are gonna end up in the Sunbelt!"

Magically an economic impact study appears that was done in 3 days by a destitute "economic mind" stating how A&M going SEC would basically crash the Texas economy.

Throughout all of this, A&M and SEC officials laugh their asses off at how much the sips don't care and make carefully planned statements to thwart any legal issues that would impede progress.

President Bowtie goes to the Big XII meetings and this transpires:

We announce we are leaving, and the SEC announcement is coming next week.

But, yeah, the sips totally never cared, it is EXACTLY what they wanted all along. They don't care so much that they aren't mad, they are just going to stop playing us (i.e., take their ball and go home). And don't play the god damn "Nu uh, y'all are leaving us" bit again, y'all played OU OOC for a zillion years before the Big XII, so wipe the sand out of your vags and get your asses whipped like men (well, as close as you guys have anyway.)

Otherwise we will have scoreboard in Kyle after this season, and at DKKKR as well, for eternity.

I assume "sips" is Aggie slang for 'Horns; like "Gomers" is Texas slang for Tx A&M

tl;dr

where are we at?
i always enjoy when bugeater joins the conversation i'm just hoping LSU fan will jump in here.

i'm indifferent about aggy leaving. i wish them luck. i'm sure they will do well. honestly, the only real team they have to beat is bama. all the other teams are on the same lv...aggy, arky, lsu y auburn. and two of those will probably get hit with sanctions.

I'm indifferent about them leaving as well...for the most part, I don't think about the aggies...I think it will be good for aggies to be out from under big brother and try to stand on their own feet, but I wonder if anything will change about their freshman indoctrinations about "tu" and "sips" in the future...

I wish a&m luck where ever they end up, but don't really care about continuing a rivalry...it really doesn't do anything for us...and until a&m is standing on their own feet, it will just keep the insanity going in aggieland about how "tu" gets everything...end the rivalry and it will make future matchups a little more special, imo....

Well, I think that's about enough thinking about aggies....now back to the real world...

lolu and lolaggy if you really think that and are indicative of how the rest of the Borg feels over there in collie stayshun.

When it looked like Texas was going to jump to the Pac 10, the lege gets involved and tries to make Texas take aggy, Texas Tech and Baylor with it. The Pac 10 says, "When Hell freezes over." Texas doesn't want to get caught in the middle, so spearheads the effort to keep the Big XII-II together. It didn't have anything to do with LHN. Pac 10/12 commish has publicly stated that Pac 10 would have been happy to work with Texas if it meant getting Texas into Pac 10.

Colorado and Nebraska pay big bucks to leave the Big XII-II. Texas and OU decline their portion of the funds and agree that the other schools can have it because they probably need it more. aggy jumps in line, demands a bigger portion than Kansas, KSU, OSU, et al, because they bring in more dollars to the Big XII-II (lolwut). Then aggy gets in line again and demands more money.

aggy initially has no problem with LHN because its faggoty (not that there's anything wrong with that) administration doesn't think it will make more than $10MM-$20MM total.

Still, aggy demands half of that money without offering to contribute any capital expenditure to building it. Half of $10MM-$20MM with no investment. Damn! Really??? Wait...they can't. The aggy athletic department had to borrow $20MM or something like that from the aggy general university budget, so they have no money to contribute to infrastructure.

Anyway, Texas declines because it's fronting the capital, but offers to name it the "Lone Star Network" and give aggy 20%. aggy declines. Texas says, "Okey dokey...but don't say we never offered."

When does the doodie hit the fan? When ESPN agrees to pay Texas $300MM...and the doodie lands on aggy's face for seriously underestimating Texas's value.

Embarrassed by its publicly-demonstrated pattern of business failure, aggy now bangs the pot about high school games being shown on LHN--a red herring. ESPN doesn't give an aggy about showing high school games on LHN. OU jumps on the bandwagon because the writing is on the wall. They knew Texas had a bigger, better brand...but not that much bigger and that much better. Still, it's only puffery at this point and pretty much only from Big Game Bob and some idiots at a Tulsa newspaper. OU wants to build OUN and they want Texas's help, just like with the wishbone offense 40ish years ago.

aggy tries to join the SEC without exiting the Big XII-II first, but doesn't know how to play the PR game. Shouldn't be a surprise considering that aggy has already shown their ass on the business side of things.

Result: SEC Board meets and the final score is SEC 12, aggy 0. Beebe, that nutless wonder, somehow manages to throw out some tortious interference junk that scares the SEC enough to put the kibosh on aggy's rebellion...for the time being.

Secondary result: aside from nut-squeezing on national TV, publicity about not having enough money to clean the bat dung from that tackle-box-looking stadium, publicity about having to borrow money for the athletic department, publicity about failing to jump on the Texas money train to the tune of at least $60MM in lost future revenue, and other failures...aggy is once again embarrassed in the national media.

aggy finally gets it right and tries to remove itself from the Big XII-II before trying to court the SEC again...and will probably move to the SEC in 2012. Awesome! Best of luck to aggy and its historical 40% win percentage against SEC teams. How'd it work out for Arkansas when they left the SWC for the SEC? 58% historical win percentage against SEC turned into like 42% or something like that. But at least aggy can chant SEC! SEC! SEC! while they're losing.

By the way, I hope aggy is better at negotiating settlements than they are at business evaluation and PR, because aggy is gonna have to pay $28MM to exit the Big XII-II as it stands right now. Hey, if Nebraska and Colorado could negotiate lower payouts then aggy can, too, right? Almost forgot...Nebraska and Colorado have law schools, while aggy utterly and miserably failed to buy the South Texas College of Law. Maybe that has something to do with it. No journalism program at aggy...which probably explains why they have so many issues working the media. That about cover it?

So who checkmated whom?

1. Texas gets to move to a different league without the baggage of aggy, Texas Tech or Baylor since aggy imploded the Big XII-II.

2. Texas lege announces it won't make Texas play aggy despite Governor Milkman's private attempts to drum up support.

3. Texas gets $300MM from ESPN instead of sharing with aggy.

4. aggy must pay $28MM, part of it to Texas lol, for the the dubious honor of getting an SEC train run on them, unless the Big XII-II officially dissolves before then and aggy is lucky enough to not have to scrape up money it doesn't have.

TLDR: This is what you're getting, SEC. Hope the extra win every year is worth it.

Just a friendly warning: be prepared for aggy to jump in all butthurt about you using "Aggie" and "bonfire" and "self-inflicted" in the same sentence.

At first, maybe, but Scott later said several times that they wouldn't let that stand in the way.
