I was expecting a 4-5 paragraph detailing the intricacies of the Special Teams, and the breakdown of ECT's defense compared to Mustang Nation's rushing attack.
Wasn't expecting a one sentence post. Classic.

Same here. Thought Davis was going to write up a big paragraph. Great write-up Davis!

I was hoping to get a response like this. I think I'll actually write up something real in the next 3-4 hours (got to have something to do to keep me sane at work right?). I'm not sure that everyone else will agree, but I think the best two teams are meeting in the finals (more on that later).

Elite #1 Championship Game Quick Glance:

Match-up: http://goallineblitz.com/game/compare_teams.pl?team1=8913&team2=1563
Venue: http://goallineblitz.com/game/stadium.pl?team_id=1563 (Has it always been the East Coast Bowl?)
This Season's First Game: http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=1761035
Last Season's Game: http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=1701201 (talk about morale spiral.... and 7 ST TDs ) (Was this in the GLB tournament semi-finals?)

How they got here:

ECT:
After completing the 16-0 season, they clinched home-field throughout the entire playoffs. In a first round match-up, they drew the Underground Dragons, who are a LU team owned by Arayl, who created most of their players. Arayl had this to say in the pregame press conference, "Oh for gods sake I made the playoffs again.....yet another year stuck in elite despite being over 10 levels down on most teams!". As one would expect, his team didn't stand a chance although the game was much closer than many anticipated. A 43-0 ECT victory, which had 2 punt returns for Dezerious.
In the second round, ECT drew AO and another 1 team roster with Ancient this time. This was a game of two halves. 26-0 ECT (20 first quarter points) in the first half as they outgained AO 211 to 69 in total yards. However, AO made a furous comeback in the second half, especially in the forth quarter outscoring ECT 14-0 (all in the forth) and outgaining ECT 183-69 in total yards (120 offensive yards for AO in the forth). Does everyone on AO have a point in slow starter? Surprisingly, Dezerious didn't find the endzone, but still had an impact.
In the conference championship game, ECT couldn't do anything against LA's stout run defense, but still managed to put up 25 points in route to a 25-3 victory. Plastic4ork had this to say after the game, "They have a great defense and below average offense and a great ST unit, and [that equals] a prefect season. Take away the ST units and they are a 3 loss team. ECT offense a 6.5" At least riverumbbq had some nice words stating, "GG ECT. Quite a defensive display on your part. We just couldn't generate anything. Good luck in the Championship finals."

MN:

After their standard 2 to 3 loss lolregular season, MN decided to step up the focus for the post-season. They drew a Hawaiian Kings team that had been fading fast losing their last 2 regular season games including one to a non-playoff bound team. MN cruised to a 23-0 victory.
In round 2, MN faced a much tougher opponent in DK. MN barely survived despite being outgained 339-191 in total offense thanks to 3, yes 3, kick return TDs by Captain Spaulding. He had 3 total kick return TDs in 16 regular season games. This prompted DaveyJonesLocker, in LeBron James fashion, to walk off the field without shaking hands with anyone. He was later fined by GLB for his postgame interview where he refused to answer questions and responded to every question with, "Sorry Fillies, I hate to be a sore loser, but I just can't say Good Game. However I will say good luck going forward."He later responded to critics by stating, "Well, that "1/3 of the game" is just a cliche'. There were 156 plays during the game, and 31 of them were Special Teams for a total of 19.871% or less than 1/5 of the game." Ask the San Diego Chargers how important STs are? They finished first in total offense yards and first in total yards allowed and MISSED THE PLAYOFFS. He did eventually apologize, admitting his behavior was uncharacteristic. I almost expected a ragequit after that game.
MN had a rather uneventful Conference Championship Game with a 38-13 victory over NHG with both a kick return and punt return for a TD. Both teams were gracious and complemented different aspects of each others games.

THE GAME:

Offense:
ECT's "below-average" offense ranks 3rd in passing yards and 19th in rushing yards accumulating 5668 total yards and 60 offensive TDs. Compare that to MN's offense, which ranked 11th in passing yards and 15th in rushing yards. They amassed 5026 yards of total offense and scored 55 offensive TDs. I guess this makes MN's offense somewhere around a 5 or 5.5. Granted they played in different conferences, but ECT's non-conference game was against DK, while MN drew a 89-0 victory of someone not in the top 4 of the lolEastern Conference.

Defense:
ECT ranks 15th in passing yards against and 5th in rushing yards allowed giving up 2591 yards and 4 offensive TDs, while MN ranks 17th against the pass and 7th against the rush allowing 3191 yards and 11 TDs. ECT's 4 TDs allowed leads the league and while it hasn't gone unnoticed, the concern generally isn't scoring on ECT, it's a different aspect, but we'll get to that later.

ST:
MN ranks 5th in kick return average, 3rd in punt return average, and 8th in average yards/punt. Yes, ECT is 1st, 1st, and 1st. How do you keep Dezerious Bryant out of the end-zone? 46.4 yards per kickoff return for 11 TDs, and 26.1 yards per punt return for 32 TDs. I would consider Captain Spaulding. to be the 4th best returner in Elite #1, but he's no Dezerious.

Prediction:
MN has to be proud of its +34.2 points per game. I mean 43.1 points scored and 8.9 points allowed is great! They badly want to get that 3rd consecutive gold .gif, but they face their toughest challenge yet. ECT scores 57 (second to Rome) and allows a mere 4 points per game. Yes, that is first. I would generally consider MN to be a "I'm going to outscore you" team, especially when you consider that they are 13-0 when scoring 21 or more points and 3-3 when scoring 20 or less. Can they get to 21 on ECT? I doubt it. They need to push the ST battle (or even a slight loss), but how can you? However, if you look at MN the last 3 seasons, they come to play in the playoffs. I expect the game to be a lot closer than the 40-10 showing in the first game, where Dezerious scored 3 times and MN outgained them 222 to 156 in total yards. MN generates more offense, but comes up short in the redzone twice in the first half, while ECT converts on 3 offensive FGs due to field position and the second return TD leads to a morale spiral and a couple of legit offensive TDs. Score: 37-6 ECT

I'll leave you with 10 50/50 props:
1) MN offensive TDs vs. ECT ST TDs
2) ECT FG vs. ECT TDs
3) ECT passing attempts vs. ECT rushes
4) Total special teams complaints: DaveyJonesLocker vs. plastic4ork
5) Time of possession winner: ECT or MN
6) MN pancakes vs. MN hurries
7) Dezerious Bryant points scored vs. Shoeless Joe points scored (ECT kicker)
8) MN yards per pass attempt vs. ECT yards per rush
9) Total combined sacks vs. total combined TDs
10) Total TO vs. total penalties

DIsclaimer: no proof-reading, so hopefully, I didn't say anything stupid or flip some of the numbers.

Balanced? 5 yards per pass attempt that ranks 8th and 5.1 yards per rush that ranks 5th. I don't see anything there that is "below-average". Granted, I agree that the offense isn't what scares me. It's the ST...

Turn-over prone? 11 fumbles and 8 INTs are one of the worst amongst the "top tier" teams.

Opportunistic? Take advantage of Dezerious, sure.

Davis...as usual, you ve out done yourself and put forth an entertaining commentary... I thoroughly enjoyed it and it brings me pleasure in the forum to have your view point written out...love the quotes! That s the kicker...IMO..

Fillies struggled a bit this season and I ve had a ton of RL stuff going on with a very ill son...but you are correct in stating that I ve paid a bit more attention to the playoffs...I mean getting here is half the battle....We ve faced some very good teams along the way and when game 16 was done, I really wasn t sure how we d fair, but "lady luck" has smiled on us and I ll take it when I can get it....ECT is a tough team and I feel we have an uphill battle, but we hope to make a good Championship game of it....ECT owner has put together a fine team and has fought his way into Elite and the Championship game...I wish them well and GG and the same to all our past opponents as I ve not always posted that but they are great competitors as well....I personally hope you re incorrect in your prediction and analysis of the Championship game, but however it turns out MN is proud to represent our conference and proud of our winning tradition....thanks goes to all my agents/friends that have stuck it out with me when I m hit and miss....

Looking forward to many competitive seasons with all you guys! Cheers and Blessings, Melissa

No no. I'll admit you haven't stated that. Someone has to be above average though. Who are the top offensive teams in your opinion?

Thanks! I thought there were too many good quotes not to put those in there. Things always get heated in the playoffs.

Davis you really went all out this time. I love this kinda of stuff. Melissa has always been a big rival of ECT. Last season MN smashed us. Might have been some bad tactics on my part. Then this season we did get a "W" in the GLB tournament. I think they will keep it closer than the prediction though. Either way I think it will be a great game. GL Mustang Nation, we'll cya on the field.

Davis I really appreciate the time you took to do this.
