Western Conference (3 of the top 4 teams left)

8v5. RR @ NHG: First, I'd like to point out that the only 2 teams to get upset wins in the first round play each other and it actually upsets me that I have to play the 5 seed.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=1703043 (last year)
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=1197234 (season 15 playoff loss) also lost in the regular season
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=1275542 (season 16 playoff loss) also lost in the regular season
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=1354126 (season 17 playoff loss) also lost in the regular season
Nuff said. The trend is obvious, NHG win easily. I do expect both teams to get ST TDs though. NHG 42-17.

2v3. DK @ MN: A repeat of week 16s game where MN won 20-10 after jumping out to a 13-0 lead (missed XP). However, DK outgained MN 328 to 226 in total yards. MN had a punt return for a TD and forced 2 TOs. However, DK is +13 in TO margin on the season, which is less than MN +15. The key to this game will be who wins the TO battle. I see 2-3 TOs in this game, but MN knows how to excel in the playoffs. I don't think they get beat in total offense by 100 yards again. MN wins 24-23.

ECT Conference:

1v4. AO @ ECT: Everyone's been saying it for a while now. ECT is the team to beat. I mean just look at their GLB Tournament run: RDW, DK, AO, MN, RMO, RR. Brutal and yet unscathed. However, in their win over AO, AO outgained ECT 409.5 to 171 in total offense AND Dezerious Bryant did not score a return TD. AO also won the TO battle 2-1. How did ECT win that game? Even though they didn't score, ST still won that game for ECT. 9 yards more per KO, 7 yards more per punt, 20 yards more per KO return, and 10 yards more per punt return. If AO can outplay ECT THAT much and still lose. How can I pick them to win this game? ECT wins the total offensive yards and Dexerious Bryant finds the endzone (you can't keep him out again and he scored twice in the regular season game). ECT wins 35-10.

2v3. MCC @ LA: Well, my rule is that I HAVE to pick 1 upset, so you'll either see an edit after I look at this match-up or MCC's going to be favored to win. In the first meeting, LA score 18 unanswered points in the forth quarter to win 38-24. This game will be decided on the ground as the teams rank 3rd and 4th in rushing offense. LA is 3rd in rushing D and MCC is 8th, so not much difference there either. MCC has only lost to 2 teams that are still in the playoffs, while LA lost to lowly RDW (j/k, not a bad loss at all), who is no longer in the playoffs. Well, that settles it. MCC wins 17-16.

I doubt it is possible to beat the same team 9 times in a row, especially in meaningful games. We'll do our best to keep the streak alive.

GG Rome.
Luck was definitely on our side today. Your KR/PR-ST's is one of the best I've seen on GLB.
We'll see you again next season.

Our special teams unit saved us that game!!! Sucks to lose due to special teams points but it is 1/3rd of the game so you definitely have to account for it. Good luck to you guys down the road too.

GG MCC

I guess with GLB you must be careful what you wish for. As it turns out, your scenario was true, but the teams were the opposite. LA hits their FG with 29 seconds on the clock. You guys always play us tough, and any one of our games could have gone either way. We'll look forward to more of the same type of competition at the next level. See you in the Elite Minors.

As much as it hurts to lose like this you're absolutely right .. doesn't matter in which way points are put on the board .. you scored more than we did and that's it GL with the rest of the Playoffs!

Well, that "1/3 of the game" is just a cliche'. There were 156 plays during the game, and 31 of them were Special Teams for a total of 19.871% or less than 1/5 of the game.
