Actually, I think input from people newer to the game can be just as valuable as people who have been playing it for years. The fact that this game has turned into a math quiz is because of people like 'us' (both of us signed up in 2008) who are so invested in it that we have no idea how much fun this can be for new players ... which might be why a decent amount of new players aren't signing up.

I actually referred more than a few people to the game and most backed away because of how much work it looked like it was. When I joined back in 2008, it all just looked like a cool, fun, interesting game. For newbies, it's a ton of work they don't seem to be interested in doing.

The VPB would just be the appearance of 'that much more work' to do to have ... fun.

This game is drowning itself in minutia.

A player builder does not make it a math quiz, you click buttons and hit next until you say holy cow, I am onto something! If anything it makes it less of a math game. Can you imagine how useful a tool like this would be for newer players trying to catch onto how to properly build dots. Now it takes a long long time and then they get to end build and see, wow I suck no one wants me. Why should they play? Give them a builder and they can build good dots right off the bat if they dink around. A builder really does make the game easier to pick up.

Not sure if any of that made sense but it was a quickly typed passionate rant.

We (meaning guys who have been playing as long as you, I, and others) didn't learn to build good dots because we had a virtual builder. We did it through trial and error. Part of the fun of it was the trial and error. To this day, I can honestly say I have never used the VPB. I have the GM script installed, but have never used it. I have won a chip and come close a couple other times without it. I have been doing all the work for my own team since Season 11 (or 12, it's been so long, I honestly can't remember when I first started my team) and the player builder would have just taken up that much more time.

One of the reasons why newbs probably don't find this to be much actual fun is because all of the trial and error is being taken out of the game in the form of the minute details. There's not really much to learn when you can just plug in some numbers and see the future of your player.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, obviously, but the most fun I had with this game was before all the mountains of changes, formulas, scripts, and assorted other crap came into play. Slowly but surely, this game is going to erode into a few Alliances and scare away anyone who came here hoping to have any actual 'fun' playing an online football game.

Then, you can build all the virtual players you want ... you'll just be playing with yourself (in a manner of speaking - pun not particularly intended).

I couldn't have said it any better.

I'm not inexperienced, tbh. Not sure why you think that.

I only had a dot with a WL team for 3 seasons. I could have had a couple of more there but decided to retire one and remain loyal to a friend's pro team with the other (he had 4 offers from WL teams in one hour before I decided to re-sign). A long time ago I used to retire dots when they hit around lvl. 40 to avoid the assholes in the Pro leagues that had -0- tolerance for actually experimenting with builds. I have since started keeping some of my higher level dots due to the fact I'm comfortable with my build knowledge now. Typically if I retire dots now it's because I don't have plans for him and want to create more dots for friends lower level teams.

That is a long-winded way of asking "what is your criteria for people that should be allowed to have an opinion on this matter?".

This is an area where I do have plenty of expertise. I have bought several teams in the past for the purpose of helping noobs learn about builds and this game. Their sign-on date spanned from S1 to the present (at the time) and not one of them gave a shit. They don't build shitty dots because they can't access information. They build ineffective dots because they simply don't care. If they can't be bothered to look at a forum to gain any insight to this game why do you think they would mess around with a VPB?

sucks you wasted all that time with retiring at level 40 when you could have been building effective dots from day one. Not sure why you are against this. It seems like it would have benefited you greatly.

I've never used a virtual player builder. I've never wanted to. Sure, the dots I have built might not be mathematically perfect. They might be flawed here and there as I tried different strategies. But that was the fun part. That was the point. I was creating dots the way it was meant to be. By using exploration instead of spreadsheets. Taking chances instead of letting a script dictate my path.

To many people rely on the easy way. Whether it is player builders here or cheat codes to video games.

-1 to this idea.

Using it is optional....so why even -1? Just don't use it. If it was there you would use it. Don't give me that BS.

why so many retired dots before plateau? No boosting or mistakes?

Combination of recycling flex, a teams worth of non-boosters and teams restarting at rookie to keep up with GLB's changes.

Lol.. my BS is like the Bible.. boring reading yet full of wisdom.. Plus getting tired of seeing GLB as a whole getting more and more robotic and bland.

I didn't retire them because I messed up their builds. I retired them because leveling slowed way down and I became bored with them.

To those that are against a virtual builder, let me ask you this:

Have you ever raced against someone on Xbox or Playstation and they knew the track but you didn't? Even if you are both equally skilled racing gamers, knowing the track gives the other guy a clear advantage.

Have you ever played Halo or CoD or some other FPS against guys that knew the map and you didn't? Again, knowing the map is a clear advantage.

Thus, you might want to run thru the map a few times against cpus or solo and learn all the tricks and best ways to do things. Knowing the map does not mean you will win, but it helps.

The VPB is the same thing. If you have never used one, you may not realize this, but it does not tell you how to build your player. You still have to make the choices and run thru the build. However, as you run it a couple of times and a couple of different ways, you learn the spots where things matter more than others. You can see what impact your choices make.

It's funny that anti-VPB folks act like the VPB relies on math skills or is a math utility, but it is quite the opposite. I lost my taste for the math side of the build process a long time OK. The VPB allows me to quickly run thru a build and test the impact of boosting at a different time or training a different way without actually having to do a bit of math.
