You could also add an option for inside/outside preference, since certain routes/formations would kinda leave that detail up in the air. Having the ability to decide whether you prefer your player to play inside (naturally better for keeping pace and deflections since you're facing the receiver while your back is to the ball) or outside (naturally better for picks since you can watch the receiver and the ball) seems like it would be a natural addition to this suggestion, since (at least from a programming direction) the OP's concern was about distance, which will naturally not have a lateral direction to it.
Granted, some formations and coverages will have the backs set up inside or outside naturally, but others don't, and lineups only determine where the back is at the snap, not during the rundown, where an inside/outside disposition would really be potentially effective. Inside would = better chance at lower completion percentage; outside would = better chance at higher interception numbers. And both have the possibility of giving up more YAC for the offense, giving both offenses and defenses a reason to like the idea.
