What? I do pass with my dual threat QB. I can't run with my dual threat QB. Hell my teams pocket passers has pulled the ball down and ran more than my Dual QB.

Oh ffs so THAT was the issue!!!

This explains why my QB on almost never scrambled scrambled 5 times for a sack -_-

Many thanks. This really helps.

So does this only happen with HB-HB-HB-HB-HB? If I called the HB into block and went maybe WR1-WR2-HB-HB-HB, would he look to pass first, then run?

It works with TE,FB,HB as far as I know, and I'm pretty sure he'd end up passing to one of the WRs in your example.

Also, it only works if the DEFAULT action for that man is to block. (Otherwise, the progression dropdown won't let you set him to block if he's in the progression)

Also..

If you can't use him due to tagging, he isn't a dual threat QB.

If the sim doesn't give you the option to run on designed passing plays, he isn't a threat

The "Scramble Often" setting needs some work. I have my pocket QB on "Scramble Often", and she takes off like once a game at most, even if the alternative is to throw a horrible pass into triple coverage. I'm guessing it's a confidence check for (Can I make this throw, thread it in there, even though there's 8 guys in position to pick it off? aka Brett Favre)...

Anyway, if scramble often is tweaked, there won't be any issues for the dual-threat complaints.

since normal scrambling is not working, I think this should be left alone. as it is QB rushing isn't as effective since tagging was implemented

DB, I believe the point is that it takes a lot of SP in running attributes to make a QB an effective dual threat. When tagging can completely shut down his running abilities due to limited plays, he essentially becomes a really mediocre passing qb. It is impossible to create a dual threat that can pass at a WL level. Just not enough SP. That's why additional running plays, and more importantly, much improved scrambling abilities on passing plays, are critical. Until then, scrambling QBs are getting fucked by Bort.

For right now, we're not going to change it so I thought it was important that every one know that this option is available and that it is not currently considered a bug or an exploit. I wanted it to have it's own thread so that it stood out and was not buried in the Bort Speak thread.

If you target a back whose default action is to block and select him for all the custom progressions, the play turns into a running play for the QB. Not sure it's an exploit per se but probably shouldn't be able to target a player who can't go out for a route:

Here the play is Pro Set Post Corner and the progressions are set to HB-HB-HB-HB-HB - well since the HB stays in to block, he never goes out for a route so the QB ends up running the ball:

those plays look familiar

If teams are devoting players to stopping the run, he doesn't need to be a superstar passing QB. That's the point of a dual threat QB...they aren't supposed to be an equivalent of an HB with the ability to throw like a pure pocket passer, they are supposed to be a hybrid, not an equal at both.

Yeah. If the QB has no choice but to scramble, then he might actually run with a good angle and timing and get some yards.
But if he is set to Scramble Often and does go through his reads, he's unlikely to take off and run unless he ends up with all day to throw and still nobody open, which usually happens against a three-man rush on like 3rd & 15 or 4th & 10, in which case he runs straight ahead for about 8 yards.

I say make QB Run a progression option, but only from slot 3-5 in the progressions

Having Run as an option is something that has been mentioned on the test sever. Everyone seems to like the idea, but it will take some programming by Bort to pull off.

yeah I think that will really help things out and more people will start making true dual threat QBs

I think when used as a progression the QB should have to pass a vision check to determine if its "safe" or worth the risk to run downfield
