The forums are abuzz with talk and speculation on how the infamous S7 league will turn out this season; with the new Copper teams joining our league, a pair of pesky (but dominant) teams being promoted to Gold, and the usual suspects who have been around for a couple seasons now, it is shaping up to be an exciting season of dotball.
As usual, my ramblings are pure speculation and opinion but in my defense I have a pretty solid track record so if your team is not in the championship hunt on his list they likely won't win the league...I know how harsh that sounds too, but the sad reality is we are in a very tough and competitive league for the last two seasons we have promoted 2 teams to Gold. The winner and the loser of the championship game have gone up simply because we supply some of the toughest competition out there. Without further delay, let's take a look.
Championship Ready Behold, your S13 Silver 7 champion is amoung us. These are the best of the best and will only face true competitive games when playing against one another, and again in the playoffs. Look forward to seeing 1 or 2 of these teams in Gold next year and watch a lot of film when these guys play because they all have coordinators and coaches who know how to gameplan.
How the West was won
1a. Crib Midgets: Make no mistake, this is the team to beat this year. Since the realignment to a tiered PeeWee system they had struggled the first two seasons and by that I mean they failed to make the championship game. They have taken steps each year to improve and they are ready to take the final step into Gold.
1b. Final Thought: A strong team every year, they had some ownership issues that may have affected their focus last season and slipped a tiny bit. That situation has been rectified and with a stable organisation this is a championship calibre team who will be very difficult to beat.
2. Chicago '85 Bears: I rarely give a new team this much respect as an undefeated season in Copper is not very difficult, however this team is different. They have a full roster of day 40 players, and are essentially a 1 agent team so their tactics, AI and builds will all be in sync...and as a Packer's fan I know how good the 1985 Bears defense is, and in a league where defense matters this team has it.
The Beast in the East
1. Eugene Cobras: This is the third season I have picked this team to do well and the third time will be the charm. They made huge strides last year and I am convinced they will get it done this time around. A solid group that improved dramatically on defense and came very close to making the conference finals. This is the year of the Cobra.
2. Team Awesome: Another 1 agent team with a solid showing in Copper. They only lost to the Bears in the West, and in a close game, so they have to get serious consideration in the weaker Eastern conference. One condition: if their players are built for success in Minors, rather than PeeWee specific, they are likely to falter down the stretch.
3. Deep Throw It: Copper 15 seems to have produced 3 solid teams and all of them have joined S7 which I think is a good thing. This team fell to Awesome only, and they had decent showings in a few higher profile scrimmages. The should be there deep in the playoffs too, and have a strong preseason roster.
Playoff Ready Like the little brother fighting for table scraps, these teams will have intense battles amoungst themselves but get humbled against the teams above. A playoff spot is there for the taking, and the top seed from each conference will likely get to the second round. These teams are not ready for the big show now but that could change by the end as they learn and grow as the season progresses. They should destroy the lower tier teams.
Th West knows best
- Vancouver Demons: Largely on the strength of their roster, which is full and is virtually a 1 agent team, this team has the potential to be the dark horse who sneaks into a top spot but should at least lock down #4.
- Nakhodka Wolfpack: They were decent enough last year and should be in the playoffs again. With a full roster they will win their share of games and may compete for that #4 seed.
- SBI Inmates: Their roster is OK and they only lost to Who Touched My PeeWee last season, which demonstrated that they are a top calibre PeeWee team. Making playoffs will be a breeze.
- Michigan Blue Wolves: A solid Copper record won't take this team very far but they should have enough talent and skill to make playoffs.
They will feast in the East
- Twin Cedars Alligators: The best of the rest? An S7 veteran team who knows the level of competition, and should be fighting for that #4 seed until the end.
- Hartford Shocks: Another S7 alum that should do just enough to get a decent playoff spot and while I don't expect any miracles, they will have their moments.
- CrackerTown Juniors: They have minimal agents which will help with gameplanning and tactics, and that is all that is needed to make playoffs in this conference. With a little effort, they could push higher.
Who Cares? Everyone else belongs here. These teams will not be competitive and will get steamrolled most of the season. Usually it's a combination of roster size, too many CPU players, and serious involvement into the PW game that causes a team to be here. I don't think these teams care about winning or making a serious run at Gold, which is perfectly fine of course but it will make for a very depressing season for any agents stuck on these teams...I am not even going to list their names because they are irrelevant to this season's outcome.
Post up and voice your own opinions. Flaming is not only welcome, but encouraged, so if you think I am a fucking moron for leaving your team off or rating them too low, please tell me so. Things will change as the season rolls along and I will re-evaluate this list at varying points in the season.
For the returning teams, welcome to another season and good luck to you; you know what you are up against and should be better prepared. To the new teams, you were lucky to draw a league with knowledgeable PW guru's and I hope you will enjoy the lessons to be learned, as well as teach the old dogs some new tricks. Either way, you get out of it what you put in so post up and we'll have some fun.
