Bort finally spent a few hours posting last night.

Topics hit:
-An exploit blitz with the current blocking code (with discussion on trying to fix it)
-A little bit about the ineffectiveness of pass rushing (brief discussion on why they are high on the test server, and non-existent on the live server...needs more discussion)
-Brief discussion about pass quality, and leading receivers.
-Discussion about making getting tackled more of an energy effect rather than morale (except for big/monster hits).
-Discussion about increasing the energy drain, making stamina more valuable.

I have been playing with a bunch of different ideas for QB pass selection, including the yellow/green zone idea (for which there is code added to handle), but I haven't really gotten anywhere significant as far as improvement in pass location or zone busting. I think the AI for that requires something more complicated.

When catching a pass, you have to make a check to see if you slow down or not.

Previously (and on the live site) it was either a set slow down or not. If you fail, you get your speed chopped in half. If you succeed, you keep moving at speed.

I changed it on here to be a gradation instead, slowing down based on how bad you failed the check.

My thoughts from watching test games...QB's leading WR's seems to be MUCH more effective.

What exactly does this mean? Is he talking about where the ball is thrown to the receiver, ie; back shoulder?

I don't really know.

I think it's more along the lines of throwing away from the defenders, leading the WR into the open with his pass. I could be wrong I guess, but I seemed to see a lot more passes led correctly.

I'm wondering if that means that at some point QB's 'missing' was disabled.....which would be hilarious - throw is made (pretty much perfectly) - and it's just a roll off between the Receiver and Defender to see if the result is drop/deflected/knocked loose/caught or incomplete

Curious about what this blitz is and what sort of ideas have come up about how to fix it?

Perhaps Bort should pull builds from the live server again? I haven't checked the tester builds lately, but there is plenty of talk about how those builds just simply aren't 'accurate'. Could randomly pull player builds, change their names, and randomly assign them to teams. This would prevent users from easily identifying that "this is my guy". Could run multiple tests with assortment of teams. Would probably be good to run two or more tests with each team to get solid results?

I'm always curious about how these discussions go. I just like reading people's ideas and possibly tossing in my .02 if I feel like I know what I'm talking about. Any chance to get the main points posted?

Good idea. Getting tackled is a fact of life for anybody who has the ball in their hand. Being tackled for a loss should impact morale, and Big/Monster hits should be a hit to morale, but simply getting tackled shouldn't be a big deal.

I'm not sure how it works, but possibly getting tackled short of the first on a 3rd/4th and short situation should reduce morale as well?

Only other things I'm curious about is obviously the "right/left" thing, as I'm assuming it means in relation to the defender. I thought this was active many seasons ago, but I never realized it was turned off. Also, I'm curious about the "slow down" check. Exactly how is that determined, and how does that impact the passing game?

It's really just a bunch of questioning that we do to Bort, and then some others throw out ideas that hopefully will stick to Bort liking.
