This is a long standing bug, I've noticed this with my own RG and it drives me nuts. Its like the football AI for RGs checks for a player in the vicinity behind the runner first, if no threat behind then go forward.
I'm guessing the intention is for the RG (being the left most blocker) to check to his side for oncoming defenders (good idea), but Bort needs to cut back the radius of the check to not engage an LDE 3 yards behind and to the left of the runner. Also decrease the radius of the search in front as well. So many times I'll see my RG go 5 yards inside just to attack the NT who just got pancaked by the C seconds earlier. It's pretty lousy - he's got 67.5 vision now and has been over 61 vision for quite some time.
