Thanks for the info. I'm glad the Diving Tackle is gonna be back. Will it be retroactive on all PBP or just from s10 onward?

So R8, it looks like Bort has decided that debuffing the speed of the defense is the way he wants to handle his O-Line/D-Line interaction? Has he had any sort of discussion about fixing the blocking schemes instead of debuffing the defense?

Right now,

Slowing down DEs on evasive rushing really makes little sense. - They are actually trying to move quickly to avoid being engaged, so why would they actually slow down? - This has forced the "stupid agility" builds that Bort was remarking on. It is pretty much the only build that works consistently.

Forcing Linebackers (especially outside linebackers) to 1) make a vision check, and 2) after passing their vision check move or drift slowly in the direction of the play has artificially opened the outside rushing lanes, as well as the short half back pass routes.

I realize you have people in the test group that seem to only push for offense, but a large part of your user base actually enjoys building good defensive players and watching them stop the other team.

I watched a few championship games over the past couple of days, and the OLB drifting thing is still quite out of hand.

And still thundering silence because people either haven't watched their defenses, or the powers that be would rather keep the offenses happy rather than design a game that is based on player attributes.

I will take option number 3, just fed up and living in denial. Would be nice to have HB Spy reintroduced or at least tested with the current sim to see if it is still "too overpowered."

r8 -

any chance you could comment on these new D Line changes?

have these things been tested and what has the result been?

- Tunnel Vision with a new speed bonus after stunning a blocker

- QB blind side throw away slow down

- decreased blocker radius for O Line

etc
etc

Yup, I might get it up today, actually.

Everyone who asked questions: I'll get to your questions in a sec, writing something up for Bort real fast.

We're talking about it quite a bit right now. This is the last thing Bort said on it, though:

I will have to think about how to do the 2 pt conversion routine. It seems straightforward, but I don't have a solid idea off the top of my head about how to make it work in the sim, codewise. Probably will be one of those things that I will figure out while trying to fall asleep or in the car, etc.

Just s10 onward. Making it retroactive would mean going back through all of the sim outputs, which would be ridiculous.

There were a few different updates to the rushing, and judging from the first preseason games (which isn't much to judge on ) I think we've achieved a little bit better balance. kalkmanc went through the USAPL games and there was 90 sacks on 1,274 Pass Plays, about 7%.

Bort has said that he's going to do a little more tweaking through the preseason, so we'll see what happens. I think the updates to Tunnel Vision and First Step, as well as decreasing the maximum blocking angle for OTs and making it harder for QBs to see blind-side sacks are going to get us where we want to be.

As for the LBs, I know that the drift things annoys you to no end, and we're still talking about it, but I'm not sure if there's any easy answers to that at the moment.

It was WAAAAAAAAAAAAY overpowered. As in, you could make a play that put everyone in coverage except 2 LBs who were on HB Spy and you'd have a play that could consistently stop the run for 0 yards or a loss, and still have 7-8 guys in coverage. Unless Bort made some serious changes to that, I can damn near guarantee that you won't be seeing it again.
