Conclusion:
If you allow full auto-adjust by not configuring the AI, not following your AI exactly, or setting a max FG range, the kicker's build ultimately determines your range and attempted distances. In these scenarios, the 85 confidence kicker was woefully inept at making distance FGs and attempted unrealistic distances while the 40 confidence kicker was more accurate within his realistic range.
When attempting to intentionally create a 'conflict' within the AI by setting the max FG range, not following the AI exactly, and setting the desired range in play in/outputs, the auto-adjust to activates to resolve the conflict, thus forcing the kicker to make the determination on the distance. This gives the 'perception' that the AI is being overridden kicker, which in fact, it is.
If you enable the AI, follow the AI exactly, set the max FG range to something less than what the play in/out puts determine, you're also running the risk of overriding your own AI, thus creating the 'perception' that the kicker was overriding your AI, when in fact it was you telling your kicker to override your own AI.
In all scenarios in which the 85 confidence kicker was badly misrepresenting his true range, the issue was resolved when the AI was set to correctly use the distances as determined by the AI's in/outputs or the kicker's confidence level was low enough to keep the expectations realistic.

The FG range option only applies to basic tactics and is used when you are using the "within/near FG range" distance selectors; outside of that it does nothing. I.E. If you set an input with a specific distance and make a "kick a field goal" output, it won't care what your settings are for max field goal range, because you have specifically said you want to to kick a field goal there.
What I mean is, FG range IS overridden, if you specifically override it.

Conclusion:
If you allow full auto-adjust by not configuring the AI, not following your AI exactly, or setting a max FG range, the kicker's build ultimately determines your range and attempted distances. In these scenarios, the 85 confidence kicker was woefully inept at making distance FGs and attempted unrealistic distances while the 40 confidence kicker was more accurate within his realistic range.
When attempting to intentionally create a 'conflict' within the AI by setting the max FG range, not following the AI exactly, and setting the desired range in play in/outputs, the auto-adjust to activates to resolve the conflict, thus forcing the kicker to make the determination on the distance. This gives the 'perception' that the AI is being overridden kicker, which in fact, it is.
If you enable the AI, follow the AI exactly, set the max FG range to something less than what the play in/out puts determine, you're also running the risk of overriding your own AI, thus creating the 'perception' that the kicker was overriding your AI, when in fact it was you telling your kicker to override your own AI.
In all scenarios in which the 85 confidence kicker was badly misrepresenting his true range, the issue was resolved when the AI was set to correctly use the distances as determined by the AI's in/outputs or the kicker's confidence level was low enough to keep the expectations realistic.

The FG range option only applies to basic tactics and is used when you are using the "within/near FG range" distance selectors; outside of that it does nothing. I.E. If you set an input with a specific distance and make a "kick a field goal" output, it won't care what your settings are for max field goal range, because you have specifically said you want to to kick a field goal there.
What I mean is, FG range IS overridden, if you specifically override it.
