The Mayan Marauders made their debut in South American AA league play on Sunday night against the Denver Rough Riders. Some critics questioned whether the recently promoted A league champion would handle the competition of the higher tier. Those questions were answer early, and often, as the Marauders took the field. The answer: 108-3.
After a three and out by the Rough-riders, the Marauders set up shop at their own 45. What followed was a 55 yard, 10 play march toward the goal, capped by a 4 yard run by Cookie O'Monster.
The second drive by the RR was abruptly derailed by an interception by Jim Boomhower, which led to Gabriel Knight's touchdown run.
By the time the Mayans left the field, they had scored 15 touchdowns and a single field goal. The only points for the Rough-riders came from a 29 yard field goal in the final seconds of the first half.
The Mayans earned their first AA victory, and return home to prepare to host Sports Club Internacional on Tuesday.
