Again, the number below the effective level is what you should have been concerning yourself with. It was common knowledge that effective level was virtually meaningless as it had been set based on player values from season 14 or something.
To add, how your player was/is performing against peers is what makes a dot "good" or not. Not some number on his profile. If you watch your dot and he sucks compared to his peers, then he's bad. If he's better than his peers, he's good. It's not that difficult of a concept.
Lastly, again I say that there are many good reasons to quit or rage. This is not one of them.
